  • I was singing the praises of London & Country at first. The person that dealt with the initial stage was fab, lots of updates via email, and called back whenever he said he would. However, the case manager I've been that deals with the 'application to offer' part is already getting on my nerves. Not only is she miserable sounding on the phone, she also hasn't responded to any of the emails I've sent! Not feeling great about it all now!

So irritated now. Phoned L&C on Fri to see if documents had arrived (sent them Tues), they said the person dealing with it was 'out of the office' but they hadn't received anything.

Email today from case manager saying yes, they'd got the payslips and statements, but had been out of office weds-fri so not done anything with them. They've said they will look at them and then send to lender, and to allow 3-4 days for documents to be assessed.

Feel like the whole thing is being dragged out! Don't understand how they can be so quick/organised in the beginning and then be so shoddy once you are locked in!

Can not fault the service from Nationwide really pleased and would totally recommend using them :T

Just to attest to Nationwide further, they seem to be handling things pretty quickly currently, here's my timeline (admittedly for a large amount of additional borrowing, but this is handled as a new mortgage application):

09/09/14: First contact by phone, DIP done, booked in-branch appointment for full application for the 11th
11/09/14 September: In-branch appointment, all documents provided, full application submitted
    15/09/14 September: Valuation carried out
15/09/14 - 17/09/14 September: Faffing around between head office and the in-branch mortgage advisor about (non-existent) inconsistencies on the mortgage statement (also with Nationwide) on another property, until the branch advisor could find someone at head office with common sense
18/09/14: Offer issued (email + text notification)
22/09/14: Offer paperwork arrived by post

Less than 2 weeks from very first contact to having offer paperwork in hand (and 1 week between full application and offer issued) seems to be pretty good going by Nationwide!

  • Glad to hear so many people are getting quick offers with Nationwide. There's hope for me yet then. I feel like I'm gaining a house and losing my sanity!:rotfl::rotfl:

DIP on August 4th in Branch
Offer Accepted on house 2nd Sept
Full Application on 8th Sept in Branch
Valuation booked by NW for 22nd Sept.

    No problems yet!

    Fingers crossed :)

    Valuation appointment @12.00
email from NW @ 13.30 saying it was complete
email from NW @ 13.35 saying offer has been issued.
    (top notch service)

what i did notice, is they got the balance on my cc wrong.
i agreed to pay off £1500 off my balance as a condition but the offer says my balance is £1500.

will this cause a huge problem? i did tell them my balance was £7500 & i would reduce to £6000 before exchange.
    :(

If you are reducing the balance by £1,500 that's how it would be worded. Their system isn't flexible enough to accommodate different permutations.

I've taken to keying the commitment in two segments. For example, a card with a £1,500 balance to be repaid and another card with a £6,000 balance to continue unaltered.

    You are correct as always:)

They can leave it off or leave as is but can't write the full facts.
my worry was with solicitor, i know & NW know the condition but was fear'd the solicitor wouldnt.

Thanks lovely. I know, I'm so pleased I noticed. It was thanks to this thread really because I saw it had happened to another poster and I checked for it.

How are things progressing your end?

Hey :) things are progressing slow and steady! Had delays with sellers solicitor which delayed in getting the draft contracts sent across but hopefully that should be done this week!

What's next for you? Have you instructed your solicitors?

  • Hi everyone,

I have been a long term lurker on this thread and cant believe I' am now joining you all. I'm so nervous at the moment. We are first time buyers. We hate our rented flat and are desperate to leave. Plus our mortgage will be two hundred pound a month cheaper.

17/09 - viewing at dream home, offer put in then and there, offer accepted.
19/09 - mortgage application submitted in branch at Barclays, decision came back yes in principle. Solicitor found.
20/09 - Solicitors paperwork for convancying filled out and solicitors details passed to Barclays.
22/09 - mortgage application submitted to underwriters.

I m just praying everything works out. I' m so anxious.
