Ar what point where you told you needed a bigger deposit. Was this to do with you valuation?0 -

Hi Catflow, it was a full application stage apparently we were a a4 pass which is just outside the required a3 required for a 95% mortgage. Not sure if our rating changed in the few days since Aip or halifax changed their criteria. All worked out for the better though extra 5% has lowered mortgage by almost £100 a month.
Don't think the property requires valuation as I'm buying in Scotland where the vendor has to supply a home report with valuation so I assume halifax use that thus saving us the expense to get a surveyor.0 -
16 July - Application in branch Barclays/ Woolwich
15th August - First available date for survey
(I got a cancellation on short notice and moved it to 30th July)
31st July Valuation accepted.
22nd August - Offer made!
Progress from valuation has been slow, not helped by the fact my advisor went on annual leave for two weeks, leaving me to deal with the call centre directly.
I called up pretty much everyday, to be told various different things. I need to provide an additional letter from HA (i'm stair-casing a SO flat) which I was still being asked for two weeks after they had confirmed they had it on their system. I was also asked for several bits of paperwork again that the advisor had already taken. Mostly if I got the call centre in India I was told it would go to offer in 24 hours. I was probably told this about 8 times.
In the end one of the uk based customer service people raised a complaint and I was called this morning by a very nice woman who promised she'd get to the bottom of it before she went off at 2pm. Within a couple of hours she's spoken to underwriter and she waited on hold while be finished the paperwork. And she got the offer sorted.
It was a slow and painful process dealing with the call centre/underwriters in India. A few things I found that might be helpful to someone else:
- I had a 4 week wait for an Esurv valuation. I called up on the following Monday lunchtime (figuring that would be a good time for a cancellation) and got one re-booked in for later that week. Worth a try!
- If you have no broker/advisor, call every day. The tracker doesn't update reliably and your application doesn't seem to progress once theres a note on your file asking for something. They never contacted me to tell me- so you need to keep yourself up to date.
- Maybe it was luck but when I used the 0800 number on my mobile, I always used 0333 555 8800 to avoid call charges. I found when I used this number, rather than my landline, I always got through to a british call centre rather than overseas. Perhaps luck, but I was asked a couple of times where I was calling from so its possibly having your caller id hidden, pushes you into a different queue?
- If you are getting nowhere, consider raising a complaint. The complaint advisor managed to update me right away and push the case to the top of the pile. I was also offered a cash payment as a goodwill gesture. It was an easy process done over the phone.
- I am a company director of a limited company. I was asked for SA302s but not accounts, even though it is on their criteria for to provide both.
Woolwich/Barclays are slow and a bit painful but as the brokers say- they get there in the end. Good luck to all those still waiting!0 -
We are now on our second application because our first property fell through. This means we have no time to waste because my buyer is still hanging on and his mortgage offer expires in November.
12th August: Made formal application
20th August: Chased because no survey had been booked (we paid for Homebuyers)
20th August: Countrywide ring up my EA and say they can't do survey until 25th Sept.
I rang up Nationwide and told them I would be booking my own survey privately as this was unacceptable (they still have to do the valuation) so please could I downgrade it back to valuation only (and get some money back). Apparently this means they have to start all over again by cancelling my current product and the NW branch bloke seemed none too thrilled by this (he tried to palm me off on central office, but central office were firm that as branch took payment, branch needed to do it), but tough. 25th of Sept is not acceptable. I'm going to have to chase them again on this, I can tell.
Some of you above seem to have had much more positive experiences though!
So my private survey is now booked for Sept 3 and Nationwide's valuation for August 29. It has been more expensive doing it this way but we can't afford to lose that much time.0 -
well we are waiting for our mortgage offer at the moment got our valuation and home buyers report taking place tomorrow, that had already been cancelled once due to staff shortage, im hoping to get our offer quickly after that, its been stressing me out dealing with the mortgage alone as husband away for the past year with the army and we are first time buyers so didn't have a clue what i was doing!
DIP with Halifax approved 25-07-14
offer accepted 14-08-14
survey supposed to go ahead 20-08-14
new valuation and survey booked for tomorrow 26-08-14
are halifax quick at giving a full offer after valuation?0 -

Hey guys, just a little update.
Had a meeting with my mortgage broker today to submit the full application. His systems were down so took down everything he needed by hand and said he will key it all in when the system is up and running again and will send some stuff through the post for us to sign! He has already emailed us across a key facts illustration document just now. Here is my timeline so far:
Received DIP with halifax: 16th August 2014
Offer accepted on property: 18th August 2014

Anyone know how long I am expected to wait to hear back anything? What's are halifax's timeframe like at the moment?
