Thought id join the stress club. Myself and my wife applied for a mortgage for a new build house through a paid for (up-front) broker in London about 4 weeks ago now. After the broker completing a credit score to give an AIP. The reason we went for a specialist broker was at the time our circumstances were not usual. My wife is a Brazilian national who is a full time nurse but has ILR now (but did not at the time) and can also not register on electoral roll. I myself have a well paid job but is on a seasonal basis (8 months per year) with 6 year+ work history but not guarantee of work as such. Also with a min 20% deposit. Both our credit scores were really good which surprised me as my wife has only been living here for 2 years, but we have been working on her credit history from day one. Cut a long story short he found a couple of lenders who in theory were ready to lend with us. Everything proceeded pretty smooth apart from estate agents who have been a nightmare to deal with from day 1. We passed initial under-writing with the only query being a verification of address as my wifes surname is slightly different being continental, so we last week sent off drivers licence. Got informed today via broker that natwest were soon to instruct surveyors and then 5 hours later i had a text from the estate agents saying the valuation was carried out earlier today (fast???). So now we are playing the waiting game, anyone have any idea how fast it is likely to be from now to get the all clear? I'm guessing it has got to go back to the under-writers first, i am just very worried as it is taking some time and i am officially out of contract again come october. I have had a very stressful June already, i just hope July is not so bad as we had to just put a £1000 non-refundable deposit down on our house that only covers us for 28 days till exchange...GULP!!!!

Well just spoke to natwest direct. The valuation was carried out on tuesday and they have only just received the report now. So its going back to the underwriters who are working on a 3-day turn around so I'm looking at a yes/no by the end of play on Wednesday...GULP!!!!

We got DIP from Halifax last Tuesday and received offer today!!
  • Mse Martin would say "Pay off the most expensive debt first".

Definitely, will be paying off the car. I'm a bit annoyed as they were told about the student loan and its listed on payslips but hopefully it's sorted now and we get our house! :)

Sigh. Had an email from my broker this morning asking whether I'd had the document I was waiting for from NS&I (as mentioned above) yet. I replied to say I hadn't, and mentioned that I'd had a text from Nationwide on Monday saying the valuation was scheduled, but the date was missing. I asked if he could check when it was due.

He replied a little later to say that it's been put on hold, because the agents haven't replied to voicemails from Countrywide trying to book it. GRR!

On the plus side, my outstanding paperwork has since arrived in today's post, so I've scanned and emailed that to my broker, so hopefully the underwriting side of things can progress now. I also sent him the vendors details to pass to Nationwide, so that they can hopefully arrange the valuation directly with them. Didn't have their details at the time I applied (which is why the agents' details were given - there was the option to give either), but I do now.

I hope this means next week some progress will actually be made!

I was genuinely optimistic that this whole process would run without any hitches, but I realise now that I was being unrealistic :D

Hi everyone, just had to join as ive read every post on this thread!
We had a DIP 25th June with Natwest, put in full app 3rd July, passed credit checks noticed two checks and an anti money laundering check on Equifax, submitted all docs etc , yesterday underwriters asked for the latest bank statement as we didn't have junes when we applied and asked for a 'proof of signature form' to be filled in.
We are getting a little over 10% deposit from the Forces Help to Buy scheme.
Sooooo nervous waiting for underwriters to say yes subject to valuation!
Anyone else waiting on Natwest ?

I'm waiting on Natwest, got DIP via broker on 1st July, full app (10% deposit) via broker on the 10th. Not heard anything since, although was told it would take at least 7 working days. I know some people get answers quicker, some longer, so I guess it's just a case of playing the waiting game. I'd been declined with Natwest via a private app back in April (5% deposit), but broker seems sure it'll be fine despite my concerns. :( I just hate the waiting. Good luck!! :)

Yes to waiting on Natwest via a broker on 24th June as our circumstances are complicated, i work seasonal work although a pretty good wage and my wife is a foreign national who works full time although now with permanent visa which we got the same day as the application went in. We were told to expect it to last 4 weeks as Natwest current lead time for under-writers was 5 days.

Anyway DIP was fine, we had 20% cash deposit to use on a new build 3 bed semi, and good credit score and everything should be straight forward apart from my seasonal work and the fact my Mrs has just got a new job in the NHS which she is due to start in 4 weeks (hopefully we can complete by then)

Both myself and my broker have had to chase Natwest on various things as they were not happy with a copy of ID produced as the faxed copy was apparently not good enough for them (they were being picky with my wifes proof of address as she is not on electoral roll). We had to chase them as they were not making us aware of any extra documents they needed. Also even though i provided card details for them to take the money for valuation they would not do it via broker as it was a third party so i had to phone up direct to their call centre to make the payment (again another 3 day hold-up) In all we have probably been held up at least a week.

We had heard over 2 weeks ago that application had passed first underwriters check and that valuation was next. Valuation was done this past tuesday and they received the valuation report today (friday). They have now advised me 3 working days for under-writers to process the whole application and give a final Yes/no.... So this brings us to end of play on wednesday when we should know.... If this is the case in total it should have been just over a 4 week process...Would have been longer if i had not of pestered broker and natwest every day and could have been a week shorter with better communication from Natwest... Fingers crossed for us all

March 14- sale agreed on a new build, due for completion in Sept 14. Got DIP from Santander through our broker.
April 14- arrived home from holiday to find that builders wanted an extra £15k for the house, despite a stagnant market here. We pulled out and kept looking.
4/6/14- sale agreed on another property. Instructed solicitor the following day.
10/6/14 - met with broker again and decided to apply to Leeds BS due to competitive rates. Property value £180k, mortgage £130k. Application submitted 11/6/14.
24/6/14- request for marriage cert as it's my maiden name on payslips. Submitted.
27/6/14- request for tenancy agreement for our BTL property. Submitted 30/6/14.
7/7/14- Broker confirms that Leeds are happy with all the documentation and valuation (and our HB survey) is booked for 21/7/14- delay due to most businesses here closing for 1-2weeks in July :(.
Am keeping my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly from here on in. EA initially suggested completion date of 8th aug which seems ambitious, but you never know...
