23/5 broker receives mortgage offer- emails me a copy to check and it's all good! Hard copies in the post. That's a relief.

    10/06/14 - Exchanged
    20/06/14 - Completion.

Have been a long-time lurker on here but never posted. Up until a week ago everything had gone so smoothly that I didn't really feel the need - though I now appreciate that reading the odd nice story can help while waiting for something... anything from the banks so I apologise for my laziness!! Anyway, I'm posting now because things have livened up a bit with my favourite building society. Here's the story so far:

1/4/14: Put our house on market having already found the dream home!

12/5/14: Accept an offer on our house and go straight in for the dream and have that accepted too with an agreed move date of 26 June (we can do things fast in Scotland) - it was a good day!

13/5/14: Get straight on the phone to Nationwide to complete the full mortgage application.

14-21/5/14: Call Nationwide new business if anything funny pops up on our online case tracker thingy - this after an extremely painful experience with a small amount of additional borrowing last summer.

22/5/14: The mortgage is approved and the offer is sent out!

26/5/14: The mortgage offer arrives in the post. And I relax. :T

30/5/14: Voice message from Nationwide mortgage consultant saying to call him urgently. It turns out that there has been some kind of IT glitch on my case and they will have to re-process everything AND take another £99 booking fee to get it going again though they will refund it straight away. All of the documents will automatically transfer to the new case and it should be a formality. Stress levels begin to rise again as the memories of last year's 3.5 month adventure begin to resurface in my mind. :(

3/6/14: receive a text and email from Nationwide asking for my supporting documents but am assured that these are automatic and not to worry. I begin to worry.

4/6/14: receive a telephone call from Nationwide asking for my supporting documents. Ask the man politely to check the case notes for anything about the docs coming from a previous case. He confirms that a request was made but nothing followed up. He makes the request again.

5/6/14: the previous documents are now assigned to the case but need to go through the checking procedures again and should be checked early next week.

So here I am, three weeks before moving house and two weeks after receiving a full offer panicking that Nationwide will stay true to form and do nothing until I call them again. And even assuming I do get the offer though next week, what's to stop the same IT glitch affecting the case the day before we move and delaying the funds transfer?

I hate moving house. And although the people on the end of the telephone at Nationwide are really good - their back end systems are clearly in a right state!!

Having heard nothing for a few days since the occurrence of the technical error with the second application - I started to panic and emailed the CEO via the link on the Nationwide website. To my amazement I received a telephone call from an executive assistant within 3 hours, the technical fault was rectified within 20 hours and the offer was issued within 22 hours. And they've given me £250 by way of saying sorry.

I can't speak more highly of the people I have dealt with personally. Something needs to be overhauled in the background and they probably need to spend a few quid on their IT systems - but I couldn't care less about that right now as we move a week tomorrow! :T

6 May - Offer accepted on house
13 June - DIP from Nationwide
16 June - Valuation booked for 17 June

    So to follow on.....

17 June - Valuation completed and satisfactory
17 June - futher information requested and sent to broker........

We have also instructed solicitors who have the draft contracts and whilst awaiting some feedback from the vendors solicitors, have started searches.......... hope to hear something further by the end of the week :D
Good to hear some happy stories on here tho to keep me smiling, thanks all!!
  • 02/06 - L&C advise Skipton will make a decision by end of the week
03/06 - L&C advise will be another 10-12 working days as Skipton underwriting are well behind
    07/06 - Feeling impatient!

17/06 - went direct to Skipton, they advised several errors / missing basic info from broker - confirmed phone numbers, job title etc over the phone.

18/06 - broker advised 12 months statements required for accounts that have only been opened 3 months (cash isa transfer), now need to order statements for my closed Natwest Isa which will probably take another week! Plus another 4-5 working days for Skipton to assess the additional info = another 2 weeks in total.

19/06 - feeling royally chuffed off and about to tell them where they can stick it - lost all motivation...plus I'm delaying the seller so now I feel guilty that I'm holding things up.

It's been nearly 1 month since I submitted my application and I feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall.
