Hi. Glad things are going ok for you and you are taking such positive steps.

To be honest, if you give them a cheque from your new account, they can't use those details to take anything extra from your account (as long as the new account isn't at a bank you owe money to). So I think a cheque is fine. That's what I sent for token payments and nothing untoward happened. It's not the same as a direct debit where you are allowing them to take regular payments from the account - a cheque is a one off payment.

As for charges, you can reclaim from a closed account (OH has just sent his first letter and waiting for details of the charges). You can claim for anything within the last 6 years whether the account is open or closed.

Sorry haven't got too far on the bank charges claim so can't help too much on that count ;)

My CCCS pack arrived today !
Going to have a good look at it tonight.

RAS - re post 48 I didn't fully understand all that and I need to learn alot more about what it all is.

Hi dont wory about post 48, given that you are doing a DMP, it is not relevant now. It was re a holding situation whilst you decided what to do.

Just to add that I am really please that things are improving.

Head over the bank reclaim forum here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=102

Yes, if you reclaim from a bank to whom you owe money, they will deduct the re-payment from what you owe, but it will be a fast way of getting the debt down, so go for it.

Take care of yourself and if you have a dodgy day, you could sign on and talk to people here. This is the mutual support group and people will be here from you when you are down as well as when things are motoring. Hugs are free.

I know exactly how you feel. I was forever trying to find money I didn't have to pay another bill. Didn't know where to turn, couldn't think how I could stop using credit cards as that's what all food and petrol went on.

It's nearly two months now. I only have 4 direct debits (car insurance, breakdown cover, cccs and mobile). Feels good to know there aren't any bills I've forgotten as they are all on my budget.

Ooops lost the edit button :o

So glad I found this place, and especially the DMP support thread - without that I'd still be in a huge mess trying to get more credit to pay more bills and buy food :o

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Hi all

Had a phone call from CCCS yesterday just confirming I am ok with the arrangement.

The chap suggested I do NOT send cheques from my new account as they could take money by direct debit.
He then suggested I send postal orders instead or ask for paying in slips to make token payments.

Thinking about this later I think he must have been unaware I was referring to a NEW account - although I DID say that.

Starting to get letters from creditors who have been made aware by my old bank that I have cancelled direct debits.

Thanks newlywed, jo1972 and RAS for your posts- I DID have the best weekend for ages - though still worrying about it all !

hi twitcher been wondering how you were. glad you had a good weekend away. I think CCCS meant that if you send them a cheque it will have your sort code and acc no on it. this would give the sneaky ***** a means to set u a direct debit to grab your hard earned money from your account!!!
    Hope you're ok. take care.

    Hi Twitcher
Just found your thread today, and wow what a turn around from the initial post. You sound alot calmer and I have to admit the questions you have asked so clearly and which have been answered so clearly will be exceedingly helpful for others further down the road who comes looking for answers and help.
Glad you have had a good weekend.
Keep posting and raising any questions you have as I for one have found them very helpful, and dont you just love PREPAID envelopes:D
