I am going to raise the matter with my local MP to force the government and OfCom to regulate the mobile industry who agree contracts through dealers such as Mobile Outlet to protect consumers from being caught out by such sale incentives and then having very little consumer power to resolve it.
Good luck!

Get your MP to contact Roger Godsiff as he will be addressing the House regarding Cash-Back in the next few weeks.
Ofcoms consultation's papers should also be available at the end of March.0 -

Oh well. Like most of us have said, this was always the most likely outcome as soon TMO started to default on cashback payouts. 3 lessons to be learned from this:
(1) stay clear of cash back deals
(2) don't totally rely on moneysavingexpert.com recommendations
(3) if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.0 -
Lessons which are as good as the dealer who provided them for those who were keen to learn.0

I was guessing people could come up with many meanings of RIP, as they see fit!!
It would be interesting to see what people can come up with.

Thanks, I'll have another try at ringing them tomorrow. I've just moved somewhere with no orange coverage so I can only use my phone at work, I'm really not too happy about paying even £30 per month for a phone that I can't use at home....
There’s something to be said for having a mobile ‘phone upon which office people and salesmen cannot disturb you at home. A member of our household who has been ordered to carry a Blackberry with her at all times is absolutely delighted that it cannot receive a signal inside the house!
And it costs nothing to put a PAYG SIM. on a network that you can receive at home, into another mobile ‘phone at home (where you also have a landline; ex-directory if you wish) upon which to receive incoming personal calls from people you do want to hear from.
We've found that best way to call Orange on a landline is to ring their 0800 Sales Number and then ask to be transferred to Customer Services. That way, when they keep you on hold for a long time and then apologise smarmily for what it has cost you, you can reply sweetly that it is they who have been paying for the call!0 -

Personally speaking, I moved to cashback contract because of the crippling - and rising - per-minute cost of Pay As You Go and the inherent variability of the charges. I could have afforded a contract plan through an actual network shop that would have given me a saving with minutes/texts left over even if my usage had been a fair bit less than it was.
As it was, I got a substantially cheaper deal from e2save (Carphone Warehouse's online wing), and after a bit of wrangling and bad blood, did get all my discount.
This year I tried to do similar with another firm that had been recommended to me as "better" - TMO - and although it worked fine initially, I've been burnt. Seems there's not much that can be done about it as it's a complex and largely intractible situation and we did know there was potential risk when we entered into it. No need to get preachy about it however. All in all I'm going to spend more this year than I ever would have on PAYG, even though I'm a fairly heavy user, though probably not by too much (especially when the unlimited mobile internet allowance is factored in). Over the two years it cancels out to show a moderate saving.
If you're only intending to use the phone for emergencies and very brief, infrequent calls, by all means get pre-pay, but contracts do actually make more sense in a lot of instances. If I was a *super* heavy user, the OTT plan I had to take in order to get a good deal from TMO would make a lot of sense - pay £40, get a *huge* £120 PAYG network use equivalency.0 -
Well done, Jazzy! Congratulations! :T

and paste it in the search box. Then scroll down to the see the company statements on the collapse of The Mobile Outlet and others who have gone into administration. You will see O2, 3, orange and then T-mobile. The second paragraph says..... T-Mobile appreciates the difficult situation some customers face. While we are not responsible for dealers failing to meet their commitments, we do assist customers on an individual basis. Typically, we offer adjustments to customers’ accounts, including the opportunity to switch to cheaper contracts.
Give T-Mobile a ring and ask for customer service and then quote their own statement the bit about switch to cheaper contracts. They start from £15 a month. I was put on hold a while and spoke to several people but they were very polite and understood my situation.
Gook Luck
