It doesn't seem odd to me. They get so many applications that they probably just keep one in twenty or whatever and the rest get a no thanks. They don't want to answer questions from all those who fail or they'd never get off the phone. They don't actually care about people, that comes across loud and clear.
I called them before I applied too as the site was not working and they said they could not put the call to HR but to call the shop...............yeah the shop that's not open yet.

News in the local paper that over 6,000 people applied 220 jobs! Hardly any were full time.

Amazing! I bet hardly any of the 220 were local people.

why would you think that? Surely 90+% would be within 10 miles.

who says they would be? 10 miles is not local. It was billed as jobs for the borough. I am amazed there was over 6000 people apply for all part time roles.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest, we're still in the mire of a recession and unemployment is still ridiculously high. People will apply for anything they can if they need a job, and as monotonously corporate as ASDA may be, their hourly wage for even the most basic of shelf stackers is still pretty reasonable.

Try another browser (Opera rather than IE, or vice versa) and check your Java is up to date.

Oh yes and if you fail to get an interview you can not really apply for another job for 6 mths as the online assessment stays with your file for 6 mths unless you want to get numerous email addresses to apply for each job.
