talk talk tv UPDATE

95% of the time I use channels 1 to 5.
Sky have offered me the basic channels at £5 per month for three months, without renewing my contract, I took that & will review in 3 months.
But all the FTA channels (i.e. 95% of your viewing) are available from Sky for £0 per month using Freesat from Sky.
However you won't retain the Sky+ functions. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I trialled YouView. The epg is similar to Skys, the USP being it goes back seven days as well as forewards.
It works similarly to Sky's and you'll find demo videos on YouTube etc.
Note the box I trialled was a Humax, Talk Talk supply their own el cheapo version which I can't comment on.
As above regarding viewing preferences, if you want to record your easiest route as you have a dish would be by buying a Freesat Box.
YouView/TT TV/BT TV all require a terrestrial aerial.

I have a dish, I don't have an ariel, my ex husband disconnected it years ago, cut it as the wire was trailing down.
As I said, I'm happy to pay for sky+ style functions on channels 1 to 5.0 -
Talktalk supply the Youview PVR - this is an excellent machine (has won design awards, IIRC).
The channels are packaged, like Sky, and vary in price. As a basic subscriber, you will ONLY get the Freeview channels, 5 Video-on-Demand channels that specialise in US "Box set" content, and 5 free Broadcaster-provided VOD players, like BBC iPlayer.
There are add-on packages that allow you to buy-in Sky/non-Sky pay channels - some of these are real-time channels, and some are VOD channels. None of them are recordable by the YV box (ATM), because they are delivered via broadband, not over the air.
edit: You will need a decent aerial to receive/record Freeview. The box is usable without an aerial just for the Video-on-demand content, and does not require a TV licence to be used in this way.
If you can live with using the VOD players (which are very good) for channels 1-5, instead of recording, this could work for you (and be a very cheap solution).
These are called BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player, Demand 5 and Milkshake - you could go and visit these sites on your PC to see what's available and how they would work on your TV.0 -
The award winning box would be the Humax, not the Talk Talk one.
I think op would find it cheaper yo go to Freeway, as installing terrestrial aerial for YouView could be costly. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I agree. OP, just get a Humax Freesat PVR and use it with your existing dish if you want the Sky+ equivalent functions.
It's daft paying for Sky+ functions every month, unless you want the subscription services such as Movies or Sport. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

So it that a freeview box that works like a sky+ book & works with a satalite dish & offers a limited number of free channels?0
