The Mad, Bad Menopause Thread

Mine was a natural menopause but the Nurse still asks me if I had a hysterectomy
My mum didn't have an early menopause and my sister at 50 hasn't started hers yet so why I had an early one, I have no idea. I have read a few articles that seem to indicate that an early one can often be genetic, hence the concern for my dd's. However, I did read an article fairly recently (can't remember where lol) that said there are tests to see if an early menopause is likely and if so, eggs can be frozen. I mentioned it to my eldest DD, who's 25 and although she's not planning on having kids any time soon, she said she will look into it as she gets nearer 30 if she hasn't had any kiddies by then and she would seriously consider freezing her eggs.
It's funny though about the loss of ability to conceive. I was sterilised at 33 as I knew my family was complete but when I was told by a very uncaring doctor 'oh it could be the menopause, pick up a leaflet on your way out' I sat in my car & cried at the thought of not being able to have any more kids. Strange feeling to have isn't it? I'd chosen not to have any more kids yet I was upset at the thought that really was it for me.
Now with my youngest being 18, we have our lives back and can do all sorts together as a couple and I wouldn't want to give that up again now.
It's having the choice taken away from you by nature that's the reason I think. In my case I've never been able to have children and the menopause makes that very final.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Sorry to hear you weren't able to have children, I should, and do, count my blessings and what you have said does put me to shame really, I do hope I haven't offended you or anyone else.0 -

No you haven't offended me in the least and please don't think you have.I was only explaining why the menopause has that thought process.

I would like to join too please
I'm 48 now and have been saying for a few years that I'm ready to stop having periods and wouldn't it be nice to go through the menopause while I'm healthy in every other way.
Reading posts so far I now believe I'm going through it! Itchy 'down there' which OTC creams don't touch at all. Irregular periods and every 3 months or so I have a really heavy one.
I'm going to persevere and get an appointment with the Doctor now, if only to get some cream for the itching
Big hugs all round.0 -

What a lovely supportive thread-can I join please?
I'm in my mid forties and am probably 1 year in. Am on cerazette mini pill too, and have been irregular or nothing for most of the last year. The night sweats started in the winter, but not too bad (no sheet chaging!) funnily enough since i put the summer duvet on and even in this heatwave i haven't had any for a few months. Maybe I will keep this duvet on in the winter, not sure what OH will say to that!
The worse thing for me is the memory loss and foggy feeling - as my dad has dementia i'm trying hard not to convince myself i have it too:(
Very moody too the last 2 months, flying off the handle for no reason grrrrr.
Am also have pelvic floor issues just to complicate matters down there, but am attending the Women's health centre at the local hospital so it will be good if my new found pelvic floor exercises make that better!
Yes, the foggy feeling, describes it very well.
I find it much harder to stay focused on things. I'm doing something then get distracted, move on to something else, and then about an hour later, I realise I haven't finished what I was originally doing.
I never used to be like that.
Also, I've changed shape. I have been a size 12 for ever, and yet in the last couple years or so, I've started to move up to a 14. There's been no change in my diet or the amount of exercise that I do, I'm just bigger! I've had to get quite a few new clothes, and the good news is, I feel slimmer in a comfortable 14, rather than a tight 12.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
I remember when my mum went through the menopause, she went from a size 12 to 16, but once she was out the other side, she dropped back to a 12.0

oh dare I whisper,"these tablets just might be working" lol, only wakened once last night with a really bad hot flushes and only had a few today, so a slight improvement on daytime and big improvement on nighttime.
I am praying it will continue to improve as I am meant to be going to a music festival next weekend celebrate my 50th birthday, the thought of bad flushes and stifling heat has had me dreading it, xi came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0 -
