Can't decide on a name for my newborn son

  • I wanted to name my children as soon as they were born. I felt that if we named them straight away then it would show that we were expecting them, silly I know. When we were expecting DD she was Charlotte Roshannah, Charlotte as the first daughter always carries the name and Roshannah after the Chris De Burgh song. We called her Charlotte for about 4 weeks and nicknamed her Rosie Posie and she finally became Rosie because it suits her so well and there were about 6 Charlottes in her class. It is a pain being known by your second name as she is Chrosie when the school register is called and it is a pain for Cheques to be in the right name. I am also known by my second name and find it a nuisence so I did it to my DD! She would have been Oliver Peter if male.
Seven years later DS was born and he is Joseph because we liked it and Peter after my Dad as he funded our sucessful treatment. We thought he would be Joe but we always call him Joseph cos he isn`t a Jo but I expect that to change when he starts secondary school in Sept.If he had been a girl he would have been Jessica Joy, to be known as Jo as our surname is Owen and we did not like Joanne etc.
We did not want Sam cos of the Rosie and Sam reading books or James (Jim) or Peter Oliver (POO) but did not realise that Mary (my name) and Joseph would cause hilarity at Mums and Tods!
I think names mould to families and personalitys and do not always turn outv exactly as planned.

Weird how so many people seem to use their children's middle names! I'm one of them. DS is Samuel Jonathan, but after 2 days, me & ex-hubby both decided that he just wasn't a Samuel. So he's now known as Jonathan (although I just call him either J or JB - he was JohnBoy as a baby :o ).

I always wanted another, but so far it looks like just being me & ds for the foreseeable future. He's nearly 9 now, so getting less and less likely that there will be any more.

BUT, if I did, I like Reuben or Dominic for a boy and Martha for a girl. J says 'when' I have a sister for him, she 'will' be called Saffron Scarlett Evie.

    xx

We named our children for when they are high powered business people or doctors, seriously though we have:

Thomas, so he can use Tommy or Tom(he is the oringinal ooob)

    and

Katherine, so she can be Kate or Katie(she was chubby and hairy when born so we called her the chunkymonkey!!!)
Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY

I have 4 children none are named after family & I love unusual names but didn't want to give them a lifetime of misery having to spell them etc lol so they are in there just as middle names.
    I have
    Jordan Paul James Storm
    Sophie Lief Polly Trinity
    Isaac Jack Paolo River
    Alisha Kiara Lilly Raine
Jordan suddenly became popular as I named my son but when I chose it i didn't actually know of any others, now theres at least 15 in his school. Paul his dad wanted his best friends name in there just after he was born, James was a name he wanted & i compromised because I was getting my fav name Storm.
Sophie I loved as did hubby, Lief is my unusual name I loved, Polly because jordan was allowed to choose a name, Trinity was a name hubby loved.
Isaac I loved the name Zachary or Zack but hubby hated it, I was 41 weeks pregnant when I told hubby he either came to an agreement or I'd choose on my own. Isaac still shortens to Zack without upsetting hubby but we have never called him it lol he is an Isaac. Jack was Jordans choice again, Paolo I hated then & I still hate now but hubby loved it, its after some footballer, River was the unusal name I loved.
Alisha I wasn't sure on but hubby fell in love with it. Kiara I always loved, Lilly was the name Jordan chose, Raine was my unusual name that I loved.

The nature theme in the unusual names was completely unplanned & it wasn't until we were having Alisha that we even noticed it lol

Whatever name you choose I'm sure you will grow to love it.
I couldn't imagine having a child without being able to greet them by their name when they were born. A friend had a "baby" for a week before finally deciding he was a Liam her daughter had been "baby" for 4 days when she had her. It just seems nice to bring them into this world & greet them with the name you have given them.
    hugs

3 of the 7 Phoenix children are (were) Lief, River and Raine! I thought you were into showbiz! Lief is know known as Joaquinn.
What made you go four 4 names each? Is it tradition?
My youngest 2 ended up with 3 names. Unintentionally.

And I actually think Reese Witherspoon is a really cool unusual name. Very quirky and suits her!
Although her full name is Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon!
Laura Witherspoon doesn't have the same ring!!
Then you have the lovely talented actress called 'Reece Witherspoon'. What an awful name! What's that all about?
    Annabee

I have to say i'd never heard of River Phoenix's brothers & sisters lol pure coincidence honest. Why is Lief known as Joaquinn? What an odd choice lol (no offence anyone)& wouldn't that make Lief a boy? mine is a girls name lol not even sure where I first heard it.

4 names came about when my eldest was born. He was originally going to be Jordan James Storm until his dad decided that he wanted the Paul in there, I hated the idea of the children having a different number of names each so I had to give them all the same number lol so no tradition or anything just me & my odd quirks.
How many names do your older child/ren have then?
    hugs

The Phoenix kids are/were Raine (Rainbow), Summer, River(mid. names Jude Bottom!!), Lief(Joaquin Raphael), Liberty(mid. name Butterfly)! My older kids (8,6,5) have only 2 names, and are so peeved that the younger two have 3!!!:rotfl:
