As more and more people cancel TV licence for online viewing (legal or otherwise) a(nother!) black hole is going to appear in the financing of the Beeb

Yes less money for them to waste

-this will trigger a change to the law and the attempted imposition of a levy on ISPs (and hence customers)to pay for it.

Or they could just introduce a voluntary subscription system as most of the beeboids reckon its the best thing since sliced bread it should do fine.

I think its about time the parasites funded their own entertainment in this day & age

Erm..... you still need a TV license to listen to any BBC radio station and watch iplayer is realtime mode, .

:rotfl:the BBC love people like you

    or any "LIVE" TV online

    Only live ;)

For example on iplayer you can watch BBC channels as they are broadcasted in realtime.

Not on the Console version, don't think even Youview has the live option?

As the BBC is publicly funded I don't think they should make their programmes freely available on the internet to households without TV licenses, it is unfair to license payers. To watch BBC online it should be necessary to go through some sort of login process that includes the number of the TV license - maybe with some sort of limit on the number of devices that can be logged into the account simultaneously to allow for several family members with PCs, mobiles etc.
The whole of Europe can access the BBC for FREE via satellite. It should be encryped so those who want it can fund it and access it.

the TVL thing is just too much agro IMO for my own personal circumstance, but other readers may adopt this stance
I've never had agro, I just ignore everything BBC

The vid will not play on this pc, however it seems to be the exception rather than the rule, the 3 that have visited me in the past were not intimidating or threatening.
Most wont be because these people are out to make money and have harsh targets to hit which results in people being setup. This is what happens to people who think they can reason with the BBC goons

Do I need a TV service if my tv is connected to my satellite dish which is pointed at the other astral satellite i.e no BBC channels? My wife is German and hence watches only German TV

Presume you mean "TV Licence"? The answer is yes - you need a licence to receive TV broadcasts, irrespective of where in the World they come from.

Certainly not on Youview - why would you watch the live stream on iPlayer, when you can simply press 101 and watch it through your aerial?

My apologies, yes you did mention the whole lot in the original post, just emphasised on the tvl bit, not how VM must be losing share price due to you cancelling the subscription, I'm sure they will also be writing with a view to you once again becomming a customer. Spend the savings wisely

Yeah VM pestered me yesterday by ringing up to check I was sure that I wanted to get rid of the TV service, he was ready to give me a cheaper deal than I would get than just having Phone & Broadband with them.

Told him no I wasn't interested as what's the point if I'm just going to watch On Demand instead, he couldn't get it in his head that I wasn't interested even though he could save me money, I actually told him to shut up and process the cancellation and not to bother ringing back again!!

We don't have a TV licence and haven't had one for years yet we still get letters and pointless 'threats' of visits that are always accompanied by rather rude letters.

My sons housemate at university was fined for not having a TV licence as an inspector witnessed him playing his xbox through the window, despite the fact that the house did not have an aerial and there weren't any internal aerials in the house and they were never seen watching live broadcasts they failed in having the fine quashed and so his friend had to pay up despite being completely innocent. There is no way I would let them in my home as I'm well aware that no proof is really needed to fine me.

The BBC sales goons have targets to hit and commission to make which results in them fitting innocent people up and committing perjury in courts......................If your sons house-mate mentioned in the Magistrates court that he was willing to take it to a higher court the Magistrate would have quashed it knowing he wasn't following the rule of law

That's possible, although it might impact on Government policy for the expansion of the Internet.

However, let's not let the possible change to taxation in the future detract from the ability to save £145.50 per year now.
Cameron's already screwed over the broadband infrastructure upgrade money from the EU at his last round of renegotiations in Brussels :D
  • But if they do, then you will be able to legally leech off those of us who still pay the licence fee.
No, we are not leeches. The law is very clear on this subject. If I do not watch live tv or record live tv, I Do no require to pay the TV Tax

I have been waiting for the BBC Salesman to come round, on commission from those who pay of £20 a call, to waste his time trespassing on my land. He has written, but not visited.

Don't you have to have all your TV receiving equipment removed

    No

One could argue that those who expect Joe Public to fund Eastenders for them are leeches
