Am I going crazy?

My boyfriend works odd shifts, Sometimes He is at work when I wake up, sometimes through the day, sometimes he works late at night. I am having nightmares visions that something bad happens and I will be alone. These visions aren't unclear, I have visions of how the incident happens, him lying there and then dying alone. I wake up panicking and I wake up and have to speak to my boyfriend.

I'm too scared to speak to him just incase he thinks I am crazy. Am I going crazy? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

Was it one bad dream that is now repeating itself because it's really spooked you? In any case l think you should tell him about these nightmares, it will take their 'power' away. I think such dreams are entirely natural but you need to talk about them l think to get them out of your head.

It sounds like you are suffering from night terrors. They are really realistic, horrible dreams that leave you feeling scared. In a lot of cases these can just be spontaneous. Sometimes they can be caused by other factors though such as the effect of some medication, sleep deprivation or be triggered by traumatic events in your life.

You definitely aren't crazy. I can empathise with what a horrible experience it is to have them as I suffered with this myself a few years back. I hope they will ease off for you soon. In the meantime I think it could do you good to talk it through with your partner. Maybe he can suggest things that will make you feel better and more relaxed.

    Hi Gemma

Firstly I don't think your crazy :), although these dreams must be frightening. Often times recurring nightmares are the minds way of processing the deepest fears we have, in your case losing a loved one, being left alone etc. Have a read of this, http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/nightmares-in-adults. And this http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/inside-the-mind/human-brain/dream8.htm.

    Hope it helps :).

The last thing we talked about was if anything bad did happen I was scared I'd never find out, He did try to reassure me if anything happened his company would be in contact as well as the police.

It didn't work, the nightmares got worse.

Does he do have a job that has a high element of risk to it?

It doesn't sound silly at all to me. Driving for a living carries an element of risk, when you factor in other road users, weather conditions etc. Have you always felt this worried about him doing this job or is this a recent development?

I remember a few weeks back you had a bit of a health scare. Could going through that experience have knocked your confidence in life being safe and secure. Having had to cope with a big worry do you now expect the worst and struggle to feel calm and have peace of mind much of the time?
