Driving with Headlights on

I honestly can't believe you're unaware of this - it's been a requirement on all new cars since February 2011 and on trucks and busses since August last year.
The reason? - the same reason as crash helmets, seat belts, air-bags, rear fog-lamps, not using hand-held mobiles while driving etc etc.
It saves lives - can you remember the furore against all of the things I listed.
I didn't see 'to look like a prat' listed as a reason for any of them though.
In several countries in Europe you will be stopped and fined for not having lights on.
You are not being forced to use them at all - so just forget it.
Edit: People with headlights on are NOT idiots - unless they are flashing them aggressively, of course - but I don't think that's what we're discussing here.
No never heard of such rubbish!0 -

And to see so**ing bikers with their light on is just as annoying!
Most, if not all, newer bikes have their light permanently on. You can't turn them off even if you wanted to. Same applies to new cars.
If such a little thing winds you up so much then I suggest you get some counselling.0 -
First bus introduced the requirement that headlights be used at all times when on a public highway at least 9 years ago since then many others have followed their example. Since introducing this extra safety measure RTC's have decreased as it is claimed that the use of headlights makes vehicles more visible.0

You are now away out of order, my friend.
You are not only uninformed and out of date, but offensive.
You are not going to turn the clock back.
So you must either accept it, and shut up - or sell your car and stay at home.
I do not need to read phrases such as your reference to bikers, so this is my last post on this thread.

Worrying that so many people can't see other vehicles unless they have some lights on, wonder how we managed all this time without then during daylight.
Even see full size artics running DRLs and headlights in broad daylight, if you can't see an artic i suggest you go down the nick and hand your licence in to the nice policeman.
Its reaching epidemic proportions now, a bit like the proliferation of hi vis vests, instead of being used sensibly the full time use of lights is defeating their purpose where smaller objects like motorcycles or bicycles benefit from being lit, the unecessary selfish use by all and sundry diminishes the effect for more vulnerable users, but never let a bit of common sense get in the way of me me me.
Don't get me started on the fad for camp DRL's, some saddos even retro fitting LEDs to their 15 year old cars to make them look as chavvy as the real thing, dear Lord what do those Range Rover and Audi fairly lights look like.0 -

Its not about seeing them it is about seeing them earlier and it and it has been proven that cars with lights on are seen/registered quicker by the brain than a car with no lights on.
I do not personally have my lights on during the day but I do not see how it could annoy anyone by doing so.Debt

I have to admit to also being bemused by DLRs. On some cars (Citreon for one) they look tacky.
But at least it will reduce the amount of stoopid drivers who don't use their dipped head lights in persistent rain etc. Some drivers seem to think that it's ok not to have their dipped head lights on during daylight hours whatever the weather.
Problem is that DLRs do not switch the tail lights on so there so there is some way to go yet!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
