Never do Business with Friends...

Going to disagree, this is business, and if she has made it impossible for you to move the sky to your new address, then it's her problem.
Legally its completely her problem, not to mention, her mortgage lender would be very interested in this & HMRC.0 -
£15 a month, you've been using it, Id say you should pay it. Its not her contract, why on earth should she pay it?
People are allowed to let out properties that they own, as someone else asked what will the termination fee be?
If there is a way to move this to your new address without fuss then do that0 -
Well there are only allowed to with the permission of their mtg lender.£15 a month, you've been using it, Id say you should pay it. Its not her contract, why on earth should she pay it?

Also, the OP is only incurring this cost because the landlord insisted it was in her name, there fore preventing him from transferring it,so I think she should really have thought of this before playing secrets and presumably saving herself wads of cash in tax landlords gas safety certs etc.
However, OP, lesson learned - you are moving just 3 months after having it installed. Presumably you were planning originally on staying a lot longer?I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Thats a point, are you moving because your friend is selling??0

I agree with this. As the bill is in her name, Sky will come after her. However, if you don't pay it then you will lose a friend so it is up to you to decide if it is worth losing a friend over. Perhaps you could offer to go halves?0 -
Why did she insist on it being in her name? That's very odd.
If she wants sky in her new place she should keep it & move addresses. Sky will find a way to do that.0 -
It was in my own name then I wouldn't had this problem...
Just give her the cash then. If you dont see her pay her the way you pay the rent, if its through the bank so be it. Phone Sky up not giving any details but ask them how much the termination fee is. It might be even be on the website. Then send her a letter or leave her a letter explaining what the money is for.
I couldn't leave anyone to pay a debt that is mine. I wouldn't sleep at night. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I think what OP is saying that is if it was in their own name, there would be no cancellation fee to pay, they'd simply transfer it to their new property. It's their friend's insistance that it be in her name that has caused this problem/fee/"debt" to exist in the first place, so OP is questioning if it's their responsibility to pay it.
I think the suggestions to get your friend to transfer it to your new address for the duration of the contract is the best solution here OP. Obviously they trust you enough to pay it currently, so can't see why they would object to it being done like that. Saves both of you any money, and sounds relatively hassle-free. If you're friends, then it's a favour from her in return for you being a cooperative tennant following her specific rules.0 -
Surely start-up offers and cashback as a 'new' customer would more than make up for any early termination fee or be cheaper than transerring your current subscription?0
-
cant you just go halves on the fee and save the hassle or arguing who has to pay?0
