Hi KC, found this thread which has all you need to know about hay boxes.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3583751Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
Hi Greying
I love ginger cake and this is the first time I've looked at a picture and I can actually smell it:D. Cold night, warm fire & tea/cake = perfect:D

Good Evening :hello:
Thanks for starting us off so cheerily beanie
Practice makes perfect KC - how's the apprentice done today then?
Ta BoB:D
Munchin - what a lovely thing to sayBut, I can really see what you mean
I've had quite a good day all in all. No complaints from me
We've just concluded a meeting of sub-committee No. 5. Lots of loose ends now tidied up - including the matter that had been dragging its feet for 3+ weeks :T So, currently, we are all ship-shape and Bristol fashion and singing off the same hymnal :T
Today was a NSD - my how I need it! Must update siggie.
I managed to make the time to whizz our contribution around to the Food Bank, so that's done and dusted. It's not a lot, but at least it's a regular contribution. After all, folk need help all year round, not just when the s'markets decide to permit a big drive on their premises.
I didn't find any *roadkill* today. I do find it a little sad that some 'wag' has superglued some money to the floor on the high street. I'll freely admit, I 'fell' for it last week - ha ha. But they have now glued another coin to the floor - why? If you've that much spare change mate, donate it to charity.........
Dinner this evening was Greek Casserole, but I made it with Feta for a change. we have been having it with a (sliced) boiled egg. But I thought I would go with the original recipe for a change. It was delish - the Feta adds just the right level of saltiness to the dish. The lentils were App F0ods (still), the orzo was A$da (when on 'special' at 50p a bag), the spinach is frozen and the feta mrT EDV. So, perhaps a little more expensive than normal, but still an economical dish, with a snap portion remaining. I apologise for the bad colour on the photo (eco light bulbs
) and for the fact that the feta lined up (unnaturally) as soon as it saw the camera - bet Dave Loftus doesn't have this trouble........
So, today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for food bank volunteers.
for the 'human touch' - 2 'employees' helped me out today, circumventing 'technology' to help me achieve something that should, in fact be very, very simple and straightforward - but that has been made overly complicated by 'rules, regulations and procedures'. Superb customer service in my eyes, a time consuming (all of 3 minutes if we discount the waiting time) lost opportunity to 'sell, sell, sell' in the eyes of the company, I have no doubt. So gals - Thank you
the appearance of a double rainbow - I got soaked, but it (kinda) made up for it
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Greying_Pilgrim wrote: »Practice makes perfect KC - how's the apprentice done today then?you'd be proud of me, sensei! I fried some onions (ok, they were frozen ready chopped, I bought them when I was really ill), put some mung beans, split peas and rice in with them, along with a few cashew nuts, then turmeric, and I chopped up half a fresh sweet potato too. Let it all sploosh together, and gave it a bath in tomato puree
And I was definitely thinking of you while I did it :j

Boiled eggs - now you're talking.
Just skidded in from a sofa of paperwork and need to eat!
You're a star - never have thought of eggs if I'd not popped in.
And - glad you saw the double rainbow.
Laters.........................skiddadles off to put water/pot/egg combo on.
PS I did avoid the cakeage - although I must confess I do like a dense bit of something or others (ginger cake/banana bread) in moderation. Its that light and fluffy contaminated with dried spiders (I think you call them dried fruit, but how can you be sure?) that I can't abide.

Good Morning :hello:
Visitors :T
KC - will look forward to 'Haybox Tales' - once the 'A's are finished, natchOoo, loving the kitchen action - but actually the reference to 'the apprentice' was your practising to make your 'first' (of many
) million. Heck, i'd come and cook for ya if you crack that one
:D:D
Pippi - brill, I'm more likely to do dense and stodgy than 'dried spider' Yay - I won't upset you so much:D:D How was your eggy peggy? Bet yours was lovely as you know the chicken and they will of been fed nice things, unlike mine from a 'shop'
Beanie - so right, for a 'free' natural phenomena, rainbows are pretty spiffy aren't they?
So Tuesday. Normally I would buy the TV listing guide today. But as it is the only thing I need to buy, I have decided not to lose a NSD for the sake of 38p. So, I'm going for a NSD instead and we'll get the guide another time.
Dinner this evening is sausage casserole - 'coz it's Bonfire Night (tenuous link I know). The sausages are mrT veggie Lincolnshire ones. We like those the best 'coz we can't afford the 'witches vessel' ones
Hopefully, the casserole will be accompanied by lots of buttery mash and mixed veg :T Pity I've no cabbage, it would be just the thing. But again, not worth losing a NSD for and I won't be in the vicinity to 'lift' one from the gardening parental's Lottiement
Right, flasks are stoppered, snap packed, better get on and seize the day!
Thanks for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

I strongly suspect that Pippi's eggs were in a cup, mashed up a bit with some salt & pepper....
Also :rotfl: at dried spiders in cake!
On the subject of cake Greying that one looks glorious - might have to try that, not least as MrEH won't touch ginger cake so it would be mine, ALL mine!! Casserole here for dinner tonight too - albeit ours is the remainder of the double batch I made in the SC on Sunday - there will be dumplings occurring too.

:D:D
so yesterday I:
- worked on the web connection (but it was rubbish this morning, so not good enough for trading)
- did a bit on the cat website
- finished collating information from my smallholding bloke about what guns country people have  some of the stuff I'm learning is really hair-raising :eek::eek: especially for a vegetarian like me!
- wrote 1,000 words on the escape from Cardiff after a peacekeeping mission goes wrong.
I won't post it every day - I'm doing a weekly thing on the Up Your Income board on here - but I thought I'd better share the steps on the path to millionairedom
[/QUOTE]
Will you see a bonfire? My only face to face session of the day finishes at 6pm, so I'll be *on*, so to speak, and up for walking 10 minutes to the huge common at the local village, to see the show - the doughnut and coffee kiosks are already set up :j
Hope its a good'un for you, whatever you and DP are up to2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Good Evening :hello:
EH - how lovely to *see* you. Hope you are munching your stew and dumplings as I writeI can recommend MG's cake highly - and I bet DP wishes I didn't like it, so he could claim it all for himself
Karma - I'm liking that I can start to construct a picture of a future as a *personal chef* to a multimillionaire, wAll St trading, best selling authoress. It has a certain cache to it...... plus my hourly rate is gonna be phenomenal!!!!! :T :rotfl::rotfl:
There are a few fireworks being let off in back gardens - but nothing like last year (or the year before). Not too sure if the wind and rain has been playing a part in putting folk off (it usually goes on for a week, or two
) or whether folks ain't got the dosh? Not too sure about 'organised' displays. I tend to tune out of goings on like that, on the basis I won't be attending. But we're gonna cosy up in front of the log burner and shout at the football players on the telly just now. So all good fun
Beanie - isn't it great that your parcel to the tedsforzimbabwe project has arrived safely - here's hoping it goes out to them this week :T
Right, well, I've had a great day, but I must start with a confession. You'll recall I started out the day with the intention of having a NSD. I was determined not to spend 38p to ruin that. Dear Reader, I cannot claim a NSD and I have spent considerably more than 38p
Now, you are going to question why someone intent on getting a NSD wanders into a shop...... but wander in I did; to a shop that sells clothing and goods at discount prices - line ends, seconds, unsold stock, warehouse closures - that type of thing. But they have as much branded stuff as non branded stuff and actually, alot of it is good, and some of it is really good.
You may recall that I mentioned several weeks ago that I got soaked through whilst we went on a walk? So my eyes gravitated towards waterproof clothing........ But then I spied a very nice fleece top..... in my size, and in an attractive colour..... and then I spied a very decent lined waterproof coat, in my size and an acceptable colour....... Then I spied that each of the garments were on (separate) 'one price all' sale racks .......... Dear Reader. I couldn't resist. I bought a waterproof and windproof fleece top (Tr3$pass brand) for £4.99 and a waterproof (5000mm - actually more waterproof than either of the tents we own that we have camped in ) jacket (Tr3$pass brand) for £9.99. So for £14.98, I can now be dry and warm whilst out and about and warm in a 'snopro' (ha! get me, never been skiing in my life and don't intend to start now!) top for smart leisure wear. I am chuffed, chuffed, chuffed and DP is peed off because he needs a new coat too, and for once, there was more choice in the ladies section than in the gents...... how often does that happen in a discount store??? Whilst the outlay was unexpected, the items were very much needed and the money came out of our direct debits fund - we keep money to cover them in a easily accessible fund each month, just in case wages are late or the *factory gates* are locked one day....... There is usually a £ or two left over each month, it gets left - builds up and was there today to totally fund my purchases
And yes, I did nip into the cornershop and buy the TV guide afterall :rotfl:
So, I confess. No NSD, but a funded purchase of clothing that will receive a lot of use
Dinner this evening was as described. Not particularly good photo is here
I'm sure 'styling' stew must be all about the plates/bowls you put it in or on :rotfl: Anyway, we both enjoyed it - the mash is 'mustardy mash' if you were wondering what the specks in it wereI chopped up 3 veggies sausages out of a mrT pack, so 75p on the sausages, half a (leftover) box of passata, some balsamic vinegar and some seasonings, a couple of (jarred) peppers chopped up. The 2 carrots were from a 1kg bag from Lidl (50p/kg), the green beans were frozen and the mash made from the bag of spuds from the farm shop. I suspect it came to less than £1 a head and we're stuffed and there is leftover for snap
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for serendipitous bargains - and that I had the money to take full advantage
for sharing - DP bought home a mAr$ bar, for us to *share* with a cuppa whilst watching the footy :smileyhea Trying to work out if he knows that I'm not really a fan of mAr$ bars ............ :rotfl:
for a full belly and nice, tasty food - something that not everyone in this country can any longer count on..............
Thank you so much for dropping by, reading, and commenting. I do appreciate it.
See y'all later. The footy has started .....
