28% and 30p is very impressive :T
Look forward to more stylish food pictures0 -
that 28% is amazing!
I had a look around MG's blog when you mentioned it, but I couldn't find the thing - my brain obviously wasn't working at the time yetDidn't realise she was working for Zimbabwe - an amazing place, it really is, I still have some rellies out there, though most of them are scattered about the globe now - luckily for me, I went there before it all imploded.
I love your food achievements too! I need to adapt to my situation, but I bet I can do that (after I get the accounts papers clear of the kitchen table, anyway)I've just realised I've definitely started acquiring food for Christmas - I now have at least 500g of chestnuts, and I bought 600g of dried cranberries today - H&B have an offer on, and it was the last day for me to use one of their vouchers, so I *feel* like I did well, though I've no idea if I actually did :rotfl:

Good Morning :hello:
brizzle that is an extraordinarily kind comment, Thank you *blush*
Upsidedown Bear - thank you - I take it you're not a fan of my 'slip, slap, slop it on a plate' approach then? :rotfl::rotfl: I don't think Food Illustrated will be knocking on my door anytime soon
Karma - a lady called Jessica is actually doing the supplies to Zimbabwe, she has connections with schools there (lives/works in the country for periods of time from what I can gather). But Memory Girl promoted the teddies/underwear/school bags and school kit drive on her blog - and, as ever, with her involvement, the project just took off
Whatcha gonna make with your haul? *intrigued*
beanie - thanks so much for putting up the link - that is kind of you
Well, first day of November. What has it in store? Well, I'm going for a NSD - aiming for 20 again. This is not out of tightness, I haven't finished my grocery list, so I might end up buying things on impulse - which after October's efforts, would be a poor show.
Dinner this evening will be curry - I suspect EH has supplied the idea looking at the contents of my fridge......:D
Right, best get up and at 'em, no flasks done yet.
Thank you so much for dropping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

I LOVE your blog, pictures or not. Your style of writing is so descriptive Greying that it conjours up lovely images whether they are 'actually' there or not. x0

Congratulations on the 28% and the 30p Greying. Just goes to show how much we can save even when we think we are saving as much as possible.

Thanks Beanie! I popped over there for a looksee ... tbh, if I was going to send to Africa, I'd do it via a link in the little town my mum lives in, they've had regular back and forth between the two communities for years, but I really appreciate the linkie :kisses3:Greying_Pilgrim wrote: »Good Morning :hello:

Chestnuts ... I need to explore about whether or not to skin them first, they're dark, not like the light-coloured ones you buy from health food stores, and then  they'll just go into a veggie stew. If that doesn't work too well, I'll have a rethink
Hope you have a good'un - don't work too hard!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Good Evening :hello:
Um, Piq, m'dear, um, that wasn't toast on the side...... um, DP burnt 'is porridge this morning and that was what we managed to chip off the bottom of the pan.........:o If I'd known you were coming, I'd of set a place - and at least packed up a snap bag for you....
miss empty piggy - gosh, thank you
mouche - hi! It's unfortunate, but whilst there are still folk with less than me, I feel bound to try to give what this household can. Plus *hi-fives* for Beanielou who has also contributed a stack of items to the 'teds' appeal.
Karma - looking forward to your chestnut adventures hugely. *pulls up a chair*
Well, what a day. Quite a bit achieved, in one department or another
I did have time to scoot to the Post Office today. There was no queue again, which seems odd, it always used to be knee deep in folk, whatever day you went in, and at whatever time..... has something changed? Still, I went to pay in £50 into the 'CU Rite' emergency fund (must update siggie). This is the money from wages that is being 'portioned off' each month, of course, with my target set, I have got to try to make savings to put more into the credit union account, but it felt good to be depositing cash today
I found 5p *roadkill* :j unfortunately, it was in the road - well, a side street, and a car had run over it, several times, so it is a bit jaggy, but no matter, still legal tenderI found it though, because I was marvelling (not really what I was doing....) at all the smashed eggs that were in the vicinity. I suppose it was the aftermath of *T* or *T*, and whilst the eggs were clearly from an inexpensive line, I couldn't help thinking about the waste of food and money. Plus the lack of respect for a food product...........
I had a NSD - first of the month - whoop!
I have now finished my meal plan but not finalised my shopping list. Must do this tonight, as intend going shopping for bulky items tomorrow to make best use of a car journey with DP
So, dinner this evening, was chickpea and butternut squash curry - using Memorygirl's 'curry in a hurry' paste. Accompaniments were brown lentil dhal and Rick Stein's Beetroot curry. Served with basmati rice. And especially for Upsidedown Bear I tried my hardest with presentation..........
Unfortunately, a couple of lentils did make a bid for freedom at the side, but I didn't have *lentil wranglers* like wot David Loftus* probably employs
I'd not made the dhal with brown lentils before - I usually use red and they really cook down. I must admit, it isn't an appealing colour, but the taste was wonderful - you could taste lentil as much as spice if you see what I mean. Unfortunately, I used up the last of my 'fresh' curry leaves (bought from mrM over a year ago and frozen), and I'm not sure where I can get more from, as our mrM doesn't seem to stock them now - bit too *exotic* prolly
There is a little dhal and lots of chickpea curry to freeze for another day or (perhaps) snap bags.
Oh, and we didn't have a beer with the curry - we both seem to of got out of the swing of buying it.....
Right, well, I'd better get list writing and price comparing on 'meesoopermarket'.
So, today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for community banking - which in turn supports the post office, which makes accessing my account easy and best of all - for free....
for food co-operative organisers - time for us to order foodstuffs through the wholesale co-operative again. Several people put in a lot of time and effort into making this work. We wouldn't be able to access goods at wholesale prices without them. Thank you.
for experimentation - the non-gardening parental wants to try out a 'new' cake recipe, using polenta - did I know what it was? 75g of cornmeal will be carefully weighed out and bagged up, so that the experiment can happen.......
Thanks for dropping by, reading and commenting on this thread - you know that I appreciate it.
See y'all later.
