What a lovely day, Greying! And yes, when I'm coining it in from trading and writing, I'll be sharing the love and you can be my personal chef, artisanal organic food only, of course :rotfl::D
Dunno about the footy, but I've been out to to the local Bonfire Society parade, a little tiny version of the huge celebration in Lewes - instead we had a childen's marching band, a couple of fire engines, and lots of people dressed up in Victorian clothes with lit torches made of tar. Its jolly impressive :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Good Morning :hello:
Can any of you lovely people help? Otherwise I'm going to have to brave the *Techie* board......
Does *everyone* use Ad0be R3eader to open PDF files? It changed this year and everytime you go to open a file you have to sign up to its T&Cs. One of which is to permit peer 2 peer networking on your machine. Apparently you can opt out, but I'm not super tech savvy and don't know how to do this. I am reluctant to permit other people to have access to my computer memory power - I realise I may be being a fossil about this, but all I can find is people who seem to have viruses on their machine that they believe have come in this way. Other people suggest using different readers.
DP thinks I am being a twonk because he needs to open PDF's for his work related training. But knows less about 'puters than I do
We are now arguing 24/7 about ruddy PDF files. I don't particularly want to throw in the towel, as I don't want a virus fest to ensue. But neither do I want a d.i.v.o.r.c.e. Both of which would cost money - which we don't have a whole heap of going spare
Any input?

I'm amazed that someone has actually READ the licence agreement.
There are links in section 7.5 of the licence agreement to show where you can manage the settings, but they appear only to apply to Flash or AIR
when connecting to Adobe's servers or services, so I don't think using Reader as a standalone product is going to mean that Adobe can connect to your laptop without your knowledge and use your processor or network bandwidth.
But well done for readingMost people just click 'I accept' without bothering...

Morning GP
If you put it exactly as you have here, the PDF problem not the rest, although the techie board will be blown away by your stupendous coat bargain. Tell the techie board that you are a 'ludite' and need the answer very simply put. They will help you and in a language you understand. I have had some help there in the past and understood it! I'd be surprised if Adobe or anyone else got access to your computer, there is bound to be an opt out click there somewhere.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

I might have a solution ... ever since I bought this particular laptop, I've been using Open Office, instead of Microsoft Word - they make you *buy* it now, after a trial period runs out, and I'm really not up for paying Microsoft anything. So I chatted on here - years ago now - and installed Open Office. Even the text document enables you to save a document in pdf form, and I wondered if they might have a substitute for the Reader. I've just been onto their website, and found this page: http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/oracle-pdf-import-extension
so I think they do. Haven't used it myself, but I trust OO with my life
Best of luck!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Super-Duper coaty fleecy bargains there!
As for the PDf thing...I'm sorry, did someone say something?!No idea - but can't recall having been asked to confirm acceptance of any T's & C's lately either. Techie board definitely the way forward.
Not many fireworks round us the last two nights either - we've made sure that HRH The cat is ineach evening but probably no need to be honest. The weekend was rather louder and I guess that will be repeated again this one coming too.

This is going to be something to do with Adobe Air, at a guess you'll have selected an option to install or download it but I can't be more help because I haven't used Adobe Reader in anger for years - I use the Foxit PDF reader:
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader
It always seems faster and uses up less resources than the Adobe one, it even seems to open some pdfs that others can't reach - and it is free too!0
