Good Evening :hello:
Well, what a day! Thank you all for popping in - it really is great to read your posts
I'm chuffed as I can legitimately claim another NSD todayI have updated my siggie. No *roadkill* found
And I have GOOD NEWS:D I - being a very cantankerous and stubborn soul - could not get past 'throwing' out that blooming pasta. Especially as I discovered it was still in date and especially (more so) when I looked up what I paid for each bag. Now whilst it was from AF, I paid 60p per bag! I could of got (at the time) 2 or 3 bags of basics/value/SP/essentials pasta for the same price - and that stuff cooks better! So, I decided this evening, that I had nothing to lose by attempting yet another variation on cooking to see if I could make it 'useable'. Dear Reader, it almost cracked me, but I've cracked it.... :T It needs to be cooked in small batches, in considerably more water than you think, it needs to be left to absord water at the end of the cooking time, and then it needs to be rinsed under the cold tap to remove the 'gloop'. A right flippin faff. But, it works!!! It will probably cost more in fuel to heat the water and water rates than any deli retailed, hand-rolled, bronze die cut, organic emmer wheat pasta, ever would - but I can use it!!! :rotfl:
*sigh* It will also need to be cooked, cooled and frozen so that I can have enough 'on hand' when I next need to use it for dinner. A product that is dried to be convenient - taking up valuable freezer space, mmm, yes, Greying does realise that something is awry there............:rotfl:
Talking of dinner, I had a bit of an experiment tonight. I used the last of the pumpkin that I got at the weekend. I pureed it (it was roasted) and made some 'savoury Pumpkin custards' - in the same vein as the avocado custards I made in the pressure cooker back in the summer. The flavourings were morrocan/middle eastern - so ginger, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin, sumac, lemon, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, salt, pepper. I served them with boiled rice, green beans and carrots and a tomato/red pepper sauce that was spiced with the left over cinnamon/clove/cardamom spice. It was spicy yet sweet (from the red pepper). I topped it off with some toasted sesame and pumpkin seeds (saved out of the pumpkin). There aren't many pumpkin seeds, because I hulled them in between everything else and it is a tedious job! I know that you can eat all the seed, but the outer shell on these is a little tough - DP would definitely not eat them, but did eat the hulled onesIt was a 'made up' recipe from stuff that we had/needed to use. My only disappointment is that the pumpkin lost it's lovely orange hue - to the point that DP thought I had used avocado again, as under the light it seemed to have a green tinge. I reckon all pumpkins are just itching to revert to marrows, ditching their beta-carotene at the drop of a hat.....
Anyway, photo here
So, today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for perseverance - the curse of the 'bl00dy-minded', but it does occasionally pay dividends, and Pippi need no longer fear the postie's knock........:rotfl:
for the beautiful sunset tonight - even if the magnificent colours predicate a cold night.......
for information sharing - also known as teaching - I'm glad to learn new things each day. Thank you teachers.
Ta so very much for wandering in, making yourself comfortable, throwing a log on the stove, and joining in the conversation. It is appreciated. Your hostess will be around with refreshments later.
See y'all later.

Good Morning :hello:
We're enjoying the luxury of a 'day off' from the salaried workplace here at Greying Towers today :j
Now, I know you are supposed to do such wonderful things as go out for drives, stop for pub lunches and peruse antiques markets on days like these........ But originally our intention was to offer to start the autumn digging at the gardening parental's allotment - unfortunately, recent rain and heavy soil have put paid to that idea. So outdoor chores it is instead
I shall try for a NSD - although if we get fed up later on, all bets are off :rotfl:
I hope you have a wonderful day whatever you are up to.
Dinner this evening will be dependent on how much time I can 'manufacture' in the kitchen, to delay having to participate with the outdoor work:rotfl:
See y'all later.

Hiya! I only managed to get online by doing nefarious things like returning to the office, after slouching around in the living room - wireless connection is very ill ... but the news I return to! You can use the nasty pasta!!!! Well done you :j:j:j
I'm working at 6, and its tipping down outside, but your post reminded me that there's reduced rate pumpkins at the local Morrisons down the road, and I think this might be the last day that they're there - so off into the rain I go2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Good Afternoon :hello:
Well, what a smashing day I have had - and it ain't over yet
We did some of what we needed to do outside this morning - it is quite a bit project and so we completed stage 1 today. We're using reclaimed materials, so as you'll all know, making them fit for purpose is a job in itself - thank you DP
By lunchtime, we were both flagging, so I opted to make soup, whilst DP chopped starting sticks for the stove. I made a 'version' of minestrone soup with what I had available - you'll have to think really, really hard as to what pasta I used ......... :rotfl:
DP is now a full signed up member of our local credit union - they took 4 days to get him signed up and provided with a payment card - how good is that? So we ambled over to the high street to put the first bit of savings (for car related expenses) into the new account. Worked like a charm - and the gal in the PO was cheery (DP commented on it) so, all in all a good experience.
We then went in search of a 'good price' waterproof coat for DP - they still had none
We then set off home, but took in the delights of $***bucks to partake of their winter favourites 241 as advertised on MSE. Gosh, I am an old fossil............. We weren't the oldest in the store, but we were 'up there' (not a good place to be :rotfl:). Frankly, with all the 'upward inflection' at the end of every sentence, the over-use of 'like' and OMG starting or finishing every sentence, it was like being H0llyw0od Boolivard.........But without the glamour....... Are all stores in this particular chain so grubby, sticky and stained? And the latte was lukewarm _pale_ One of my 'servers' excitedly told me about a customer survey that I could take part in, with the chance to win a whole month's worth of coffee.............. And should I wish to mention his name, well then I should feel free.......:rotfl:
Lawks, don't anybody lecture me about going in there in the first place. It was the first time I had been in there in 2 years - the last time, I met someone for coffee, and it was their choiceAnd we worked out that DP hadn't been in one since 2005, and that one was 'in the motherland' - so it was a lot cleaner and the service was better - albeit extremely scripted...
£3.25 for 2 tall lattes. Glad I wasn't paying full price........ Besides which, DP paid, so I get to claim my NSD :j
Well, I'd better get on with dinner. I managed to manufacture enough time in the kitchen this morning to make some of Jack's burgers. I'm soaking some beans and will cook them in the pressure cooker just now. I'll also do some jacket spuds as I've got to have the oven on to cook some bread. Better whip up a cake too, to make full use of the oven time. Dinner is definitely going along a 'Wild West' theme...:rotfl:
I can hear DP has just got the stove going, so we'll enjoy a night in front of the fire. I'm pretty sure GArdeners W0rld is going to Geraldine and Wayne Hemingway's garden tonight. I shall look forward to that. I love their house - remember seeing it in a sunday supplement once - they have a climbing wall in their dining room :j
Right, best go and cook up a storm!
Thank you so much for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Uggh. I think that SB coffee is so overrated. And that putting your name on the cup drives me mad. Sometimes I fib just to make me feel better about it although from memory have been there only twice in last 6 months in principle!
Venison stew from the SC for us tonight..and yes basmati :j rather than the orzo pasta which is an accquired taste :rotfl: Salad too
I then used up the end of a bag of pudding rice to make rice pudding..with lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and some orange zest it's gonna be lushand such a cheap pudding. We also used water to cook it first, rather than milk, so probably healthier! Not that that is a major concern
It could have a coulis though...maybe rosehip jelly?
SO pleased its the weekend..seriously ladies and gents you have NO idea. Am so ready to leave work behind this week!! Fire on and a glass of wine in hand...:)MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Good Evening :hello:
Hiya Brizzle - ta for popping in. Yes, I think SB is overrated too - but I suppose I thought it might be a 'treat' for us both, as it is 'unusual' for us to go in to such a place as that. The young assistant was so concentrating on getting feedback on 'service' and I guess that they thought that they were giving tremendous service (?) that they forgot that business is actually about the product too?! We drank in - but I had my 'Bob' and 'Bob' ready just in case...... :rotfl:Funnily enough, I'd seen something about their 'pumpkin latte' the other day on the internet and found an 'emulation' recipe and thought about trying it - I hadn't told DP, but he was sitting in the shop today, muttering, 'you could make better than this, I'm sure you could.....' :rotfl:
I like the sound of the ingredient combination in your rice pudding recipe - i'm not a fan of rp myself, but I know someone that would 'love me forever' if I made that.....
Enjoy that wine - sounds like just the ticket after your week
Anyway, I just popped back to put up a little pic of dinner. Jack's 9p burgers are great, I heartily recommend them. The beans were HM - the left over tomato sauce from last night, some AF haricot beans (cooked in the PC) and an extra grating of black pepper. The potatoes baked whilst the bread cooked and I made the fried egg in a poaching ring - but both DP and I like cooked yolks. We're heathen, I know and Greying Towers will never achieve a Bib Gourmand, but there you go, it's how we like itA pretty frugal dinner I reckon (and very filling
)
Oh, and there is a liberal sprinkling of smoked paprika on the food, if you wondered what it wasOh, and yes, I have got a burger press, so they are reasonably uniform, as I find that they then cook evenly
Today, well, how many things am I grateful for today..... better pick just 3.........
for breaks from routine - perhaps you work harder, perhaps you work differently, perhaps you laze the whole day through, but change is definitely as good as a rest ...........
for bumping into friends/acquaintances - I bumped into someone that I have got to know over a number of years. I don't see them that often, but they are a real live firecracker. It is impossible to not feel energised after an encounter (and also, often a little exhausted....:rotfl:)
for follow-through - Getting DP to set up a credit union a/c for vehicle expenditure was just a sentence on a page a month or so ago. Today's deposit saw the first step towards increased organisation of our finances. It feels great
Well, I could go on about the wonderful blues, oranges, apricots and greys of the sky and clouds as the sun set again this evening, as I walked home wif me fella. But I won't
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.
