Mmm....love the look of that! No wonder you were properly attired to eat it :D Although I don't like smoked anything I can't see anything in the ingredients in jacks recipe that appears to be smoked. Does it refer to the paprika,Greying? My jar isn't the smoked version....

Yes, I think I commented on that when I made the burgers during the B2B Jack Week. Paprika - as in the book recipe - I always assume to be the sweet version. When I made the burgers, I used smoked paprika, as I currently have a jar, but actually, for the 'spheres' I concentrate more on the lemon - using rind and juice. HTH

As regards the book - I don't know if they did mean smoked paprika, but Jack doesn't usually advocate having different spices if you are on a tight budget - so it didn't quite fit the brief somehow. I think it is an editorial oversight :(

    Hi Grey Pilgrim,

In your quest for cost cutting, have you thought about

    a) making own laundry detergent, this can also be used for cleaning floors etc and using a 50:50 ratio for fabric softener/white vinegar?
    b) Also, can you still take your holiday and go by train, using a rail card
    c) Make own mouthwash with essential oils and water

These little tips can save you lot of money overall, and can add to your pot.

Losing keys are a nightmare, and thank goodness, we had all our doors keyed alike - All locks uber high security. When I lost our house keys, it was just £13 to replace the key, via a specialist locksmith.

I never carry a bunch, as the keyed alike has removed the need. In the long run it saved us a small fortune. Something for the future, maybe, when you are back in the black.

Keep us posted, and I hope other MSE come up with some ideas to achieve your goal.

Thanks dear GP, I was a bit puzzled by the title 'smokey' in the book so kind of skipped past that recipe. Might give it a try now :)

    Good Morning :hello:

Hi km1423 - good suggestions there. When we lost the keys last July, it was actually the replacement car key that cost the most _pale_But thank you for pitching in :D As battles to keep in the positive with the bank balance are always ongoing :D And solutions are always welcome :D Thank you for taking the time to post.

little_sweetie - I think you could take it in any direction (flavourwise) you like. In the lentil b*alls recipe I have, the flavourings are actually thyme and lemon zest (I add a little juice too)

So here we are at FRIDAY already.

I should probably have time to go to L*dl today so we'll see what the state of the onions are. I also need some eggs.

I'll have to make a decision on what we have for dinner this evening, based on whether I'm baking or not (ie whether I get the eggs or not). What ever I do, it'll need to still keep rocking the frugal vibe :)

Right, I'm going for a scamper around the diaries, as the snap is already packed up, and I'm all but ready to go - a coiled spring me :rotfl: - but it's *twirly* yet :D

    Thanks for popping by.

    See y'all later.

Cake was made thank you Greying and all who helped out. I made my own paper liner out of grease proof paper and it worked like a charm! However it wasn't very lemony so I obviously didnt drizzle enough.

    Good Evening :hello:

Greying ponders why there is a trail of crumbs leading out of the door, and a stack of empty paper plates is sat on the table next to a bundle of crumpled - all colours of the rainbow - napkins ........

Well, I can see you've been having a marvellous time without me..... again :(

Beanie - thanks for starting us all off in the right manner this morning :D Mucho appreciated :D

starnac - you're welcome on this thread anytime with cake like that :D Thank goodness DP hasn't spotted it yet :D

little_sweetie - did you nab a slice? I bet it was lush :D

Well, Dear Reader, I can claim a NSD today, I have not spent a bean. I was about as enthused as a plank of wood to go gallivanting about in the wind today, so I'm afraid all the onions and eggs were left firmly on the shelf. I think that I'll have to forgo the onions, make what I've left, last and DP has been instructed to pick up eggs tomorrow.

I found myself doing this -> :p to the weather today. I mean - since when has it been appropriate to have such gusting wind in May for heaven's sake, especially when no pickled onions have been consumed for quite some time now......... :rotfl: Oh, the wind does make me grumpy. I know that it winds children up too - not beloved by schools, the wind.

    So, by the time I came to making dinner, I was thoroughly fed up, and was unable to contemplate baking anything due to lack of eggs and didn't want to waste oven heat by just using it for the Scheherazade casserole. So I had a little think, and decided that I would use my 'ready meal' card :T I had made up some veggie scrapple at the weekend, and sliced it up to freeze - and to be honest, it was taking up a lot of space in the freezer, so in using half of it, I've actually freed up space :j Then in a big :p to the weather, I made up an avocado salsa, to conjure up Brazillian pavement splitting sunshine. Made up some coarse bulghar. Whipped together some grated carrot with pumpkin and sunflower seeds and ran some cashews through, and then cut up some cucumber, mixed in some pickled cauliflower and some chopped mint, and voila! Dinner was made :D Pic here;

    025_zps7bff84e5.jpg

The presentation wasn't the best I'm afraid - it does look like one long length of scrapple - trust me, there's a join and it is in fact two slices. DP's plate was worse, as the scrapple 'broke up' whilst I was trying to plate it up. I should have blitzed the beans a little more, to make it a little more structured. However, it didn't affect the taste one iota, so no problem really :D

If you'd like a go at making veggie scrapple, THIS blog refers to the recipe that I used (although I - and the original recipe - use vegetable stock, but use chicken stock if you'd rather :D)

So, today I can claim a NSD and a RM 'use-up' - not too shabby :D

    For the following 3 things. I am grateful;

That I'm organised - spent time today 'clearing up' after someone who's not.......... ;)

That DP's organised - that's the weekend sorted then..... even if we're doing nothing that we wanted to do :( Ah well, needs must..... I suppose.....(where's the pouty smiley when you need it? :rotfl:)

that DP cleared up after my *creating* in the kitchen :D:D

Thanks ever so for popping in, reading and distributing cake. I remain grateful..... and hungry - I missed out on the cake after all! :D:D

    See y'all later.
