    Good Evening :hello:

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Is an approximate video of me, just now, reading your comments :D

    What are you like??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Pippi - thank you for your lovely, decorous post - full of grace, wit, humour and bonhomie........ the smoke was green, we went for salad....................... :) Alas, the 'big William' is potentially 'pour le voiture' :(

    EH - welcome back from your foray into 'wild' camping :D Mind you, I'm not entirely sure that we have the 'real' EH back.... after all, you've gone all naturist with your eating habits and you've even stated in print that tinned potatoes might be 'ok' for use in a salad...... is it you? Really? You're not sickening for something are you? If it is you, really, then nice work with the YS'd goods. They'd still want top whack for them goods round here, they'd need to be green, sprouty and have at least one declining into a sludgy blight mush to get them knocked down to 19p :D

    little_sweetie - ha! tis always the quiet ones! I can see that we're going to have to be careful with our phrasing from now on - you're on fire with your retorts :D:D:D Not too sure mr Ray could put any pressure on to get this large William to shrink :(

    beanielou :kisses3: you are a star - ALWAYS there with the support and kind word - Thank you :D And Ellidee was right, there's a big bill winging it's way to Greying Towers :(

    Ellidee *snort* - norty girl :naughty:

    Well, today has been ok for me. How's it done for you?

    I didn't have a NSD, but I have spent up - possibly until the weekend now, fingers crossed :D

    Yes, we've got car problems, so there will be money needing to be spent just now, so the belt is being tightened... again. And yes, Dear Reader, I know that you will want to know why we've not the funds in a 'motoring expenses' budget. Well, we have - sort of. But the only trouble is, it was only set up last October, and it's in danger of being wiped out - with the car insurance/road tax still needing funding. And yes, this is where the 'emergency fund' comes to the rescue :j so we can breathe a sigh of relief...... PHEW! However, we will immediately need to start topping the emergency fund back up - and what source do we have for that? Erm, anyone?? any ideas???? Well, we're back to where we started with this diary, trying to make do and mend and live on next to nought! :rotfl: So I'm very much afraid, that despite interventions and pleading from ^^ management, you're stuck with me...... here, wittering on, about me frugal tea and other such nonsense :D:D

    Right, so, never one to miss a link..... tonight, for dinner we had ..... salad :D Nope, the sun wasn't splitting the pavements here. Well, it was, then it wasn't, then it was - y'all get the drift :) So I went for a plate of salad, with the *star* being a mung bean salad with a wonderful tangy lime vinaigrette, an avocado salad* of Israeli origin called Avocado im egozim and a Turkish/Armenian potato and tomato salad called Patates Salatasi. * I got the avocados from mrM last week - they were on offer at 4 for 99p - I assume as part of their promo to take on L*dl and Ald*. I wasn't sure that they weren't going to prove to be bullet hard for eternity, but having used the first one tonight, I'm cautiously optimistic, after being wowed by the quality of L*dl avocadoes (dearer though) So if you're wondering why I didn't mention I'd bought them, I was pondering if I'd actually get to use them :o Any hoo, pic here;

    029_zps862a9a5c.jpg

    The mung beans were mixed with a little lime zest and red onion and then dressed with a tangy lime vinaigrette and topped with chopped salted cashews. The recipe for the vinaigrette can be found HERE (scroll down). The recipe for the avocado salad was from Arto del Haroutunian's book, Vegetarian Dishes of the Middle East. I have a link to the recipe, but it's contained in a 'sample view' of the book - the link shows the book at 91% read - click to turn on the pages (right arrow on the screen) until you reach 96% read (look at the bottom left of the page) and you should see avocado im egozim (avocados with walnuts) half way down the page, the recipe follows. The link is HERE. I hope, if you like avocado, you'll try this salad, it was lovely :D And finally, I couldn't find a recipe for the potato salad that wasn't in Turkish/Armenian. However, it too is in the same book as the avocado recipe, and basically, if you dress potatoes and tomatoes with oil, lemon juice, a crushed clove of garlic, salt, pepper and a little chopped parsley, you'll have the salad :whistle:

    I'd definitely make all the salads again. They were tasty. I really liked the zingy lime vinaigrette - winner!

    So, today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    that I have MSE to run to when life gets rough :D

    for Team Greying - my turn to be the crutch today :( But it's how teams work :D And I wouldn't have it any other way :D:D

    for plans and flexibility - seems you need both.... by the bucket load :D

    Thank you so very much for dropping by, reading and making me laugh so much today - it's been a real tonic. THANK YOU :D The support of folk of MSE never ceases to amaze me.

    See y'all later.

    beanie - spot on! I have to say, if there was a thriving 'car share' system in my neighbourhood, I'd seriously query keeping the car, but since there isn't and DP would resist, we just have to 'suck it up' as they say...... :D

    I forgot to add, tonight's meal counts as one of my '7 salads' so i'll alter my siggie accordingly. Setting challenges or targets does seem to help me focus on the little everyday things that get us towards the bigger picture. I hope it's not too boring for everyone, but I have to report - it seems to work, well, it does for me anyhow :D

    Night all.

    ............- well apart from the threat of large williams anyway. Make threatening faces at it - maybe it'll turn back and head elsewhere

    Thanks for the explanation Ellidee - I was too afraid of asking in case I was the only one who didn't know. Beanie Lou, thanks for asking. I would never have known although I'm still not entirely sure which one it is.

    I'll try EssexHebridean's suggestion - bills arrive regularly in this house so will try on the first tomorrow but DH away this week so will have to try on the second when he gets home at the weekend :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Good Morning :hello:

    Ha ha supersaver - MSE 'parlance' sometimes gets in the way. If you see someone referring to 'Big Williams' or 'Little Williams' on DFW, it's usually to do with household bills that are coming their way - expected or unexpected :D If you stray onto other threads, or indeed away from MSE altogether, well, then you're left to your own imagination as to what the author is talking about...... :eek::rotfl:

    So, reminder that today is WEDNESDAY.

    I can go for a NSD today :D

    I have no idea what will be for dinner, as today has all the potential to be a topsy turvy day. I may well be best having one of the RM's in mind with a microwave defrost team standing by..... :D

    Snap is all packed up. I'm ready to go, so I'd better.

    Thanks for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

    You lot! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
    EH you eat avocado naked ?:eek::eek: I must admit I have never eaten any dressed or otherwise but if I do I will, at least, have my dressing gown on :rotfl::rotfl:

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: :T Brilliant!

    Those salads do look rather tasty GP - but surely that meal should count as THREE salads, as, well, it is?! Definitely might try that potato and tomato thing - there is something almost Spanish about that. Have you tried making any Spanish tapas type dishes? There's one I think would particularly appeal to you, (actually catalan rather than Spanish) basically lightly toasted or fried bread with garlic, then ripe tomato rubbed across the top - here you go Pan Con Tomate Another favourite of ours is Patatas Bravas - reckon you'd like that, too.

    Ahhh, yes, cars. we've discussed long and hard whether we can honestly justify keeping two, but the truth of it is that really we'd struggle to NOT have both. There is usually one day at least a week where we can't car share into London for one reason or another - normally I drop MrEH at the station then drive a couple of miles on to the office I work in most of the time. Then on Fridays when I don't work it would leave me stranded completely without a car - our public transport is pretty dire and very expensive - return bus into town (thankfully only a couple of miles so I usually walk it) is best part of a fiver which is just ludicrous! we bought the second car in the first place on the basis that it would save us money - drives you mad when they *claim* that they're trying to make it possible for people to use public transport. For us to both use public transport our monthly commuting bill would be in excess of £600 and would involve a mile walk to the bus, 45 minute bus ride and then 40 minutes (me) and an hour (MrEH) on the tube. The two cars are staying! :rotfl:

    Hope your topsy turvey day has stabilised and proved to be not too tricky.

    ...you do have to be a bit careful where the black pepper ends up... ;):D:eek:

    Oh, EH, you are worse than me! Don't encourage me! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    I know what you mean about having two cars, though. Until recently we had two. It was a nightmare trying to get both of us to work and the kids to school on time without them. Even after they left home, we travelled in opposite directions to get to work and running my old banger was actually much cheaper than buying a bus pass :cool: It was only when we downsized and were both made redundant that we sold the most expensive one to run and made do with my ( now 3 year old) little car. It serves us very well and on a nice sunny day I can use my over 60's bus pass to get into town. I can fully understand that you need your own car, It's COST EFFECTIVE :)

    Hope your day is working out well, Greying, and not too stressful. And on the bright side, I know your large William was unwelcome but, at least, you have your emergency fund to use and you won't have to just lump it on the CC. I am so grateful that our emergency fund was there to help DD with her new boiler. Work on that problem begins today :shocked::shocked:
