Driving Licence Replacement Scam!

  • I consider myself quite intelligent but managed to fall for this when I was in a rush, paying £60 for a replacement licence.

As soon as I realised, I was onto them, sending multiple emails per day. They originally agreed to refund me £32, which I stated that I was not happy with.

After multiple emails with no reply, I wrote a letter before action, stating my intention to commence court action against them, giving them 24 hours to reply. I emphasised the fact that they had not adhered to their 72 hour refund policy and their claim of 24/7 email support was false given their lack of response and this had misled me.

One day later I received a refund of £52. In the meantime, I also received my replacement licence in the post. They must have sent my completed forms to the DVLA and paid the £20 cost for the replacement.

So after all my trouble, I actually made money given that I originally paid £60, was refunded £52 and received a licence; as opposed to paying £20 myself in first place.

The whole process took about a week so persist and you can beat them relatively easily!
  • After reading it back, 'I consider myself (to be) quite intelligent', sounds quite egotistical! What I mean to say is I feel I have some degree of common sense and do not regularly fall for such scams.
  • I have just been conned by this site: dvla-driving-licence

I have taken teh time to call my bank and see if they can reclaim the money (they can't because technically it's not a fraud). They did however recommend calling Trading Standards and reporting the company on this number: [FONT=&quot]08454 040506

I have done this and according to Trading Standards this is something that concerns them and even though the service is (technically) described this is skating very close to the edge and taking advantage of the fact that people don't tend to read all the text on the homepage, are in a hurry, assume the first link in google will be valid and are expecting to pay money to the DVLA anyway...

I would recommend that anyone who encounters this kind of fraud takes the time to call and report.

Trading Standards also said that we have a right to our money back within 7 days and that if the cancellation process doesn't work on the website, they can help which is another reason to call them.

i was charged £90 and would then have to pay a further £50 to DVLA. Whichever way you look at it the people running the site are running a con and taking advantage of people - it's not a valid 'service' - tbh, if they actually sent the form on and covered the charge with the DVLA I wouldn't feel particulalrly hard done by, it's that nothing is done at all other than a printer set up, a website and the price of a stamp that makes this all wrong.

Rather than saying 'you deserve it, you're stupid' maybe we should try to get these sites shut down? A con is a con - people all over fall for cons all the time - if this one doesn't get you another one may so we should try to stop them whenever they occur.

Please report your experience to trading standards, don't let them get away with it.

Does the website state they are not the DVLA ? If they do what are you going to complain about?

Dont forget to report the postoffice also because they offer a similar service.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • Just a warning to everyone out there, there is another site providing this so called 'service'. It is called DVLAUK.CO.UK and is the first hit on a Google search for DVLA. Beware, they are the same as all the other sites and will take your money for providing a completed form - nothing else. Goes without saying that you do not need to use this service, just go to the correct .gov.uk site.

My son used this site and I attempted to cancel within 15 minutes via 2 emails and then sent a registered letter to their address requesting a refund.

3 days later and no response, will keep trying and use Trading Standards if necessary.

Just posting this to warn people, remember the name DVLAUK.CO.UK. Beware!!!

Correction - they may be the first ADVERT but the official DVLA site is still and as far as I'm aware always has been the first actual result.

Ok thank you, I will do
  • Appreciate that it may be the first ADVERT but my son didn't differentiate, he just clicked on the FIRST link that came up when he searched for DVLA!

Anyway, my post was really just to warn people about DVLAUL.CO.UK.
