  • Heating went on tonight - we feel terribly decadent!! :rotfl:

Operation Fit Into Frock has begun - sensible eating (mostly - a mini gingerbread man did fall into my mouth by accident) and I went for a walk instead of the pub with a friend this evening.

Low spend day today - £2.62 for an outfit for Small's doll for Christmas present. Also got some eggs.

    Should be nsd tomorrow.

I am also going to call mortgage company to see how much I need to pay to reduce the term by a month.

Just called up to find out how much I would need to op to reduce term by a month and it was £300 which I had put into pot on pay day.

Sent that over and now end date is January 2028. :j

  • 2 nsd so far this month.

We've been sticking to just having the heating on for the odd hour here and there so not too bad.

Mr Delta asked about the over payment "thing" last night and was deeply impressed with how well we've done so far. He suggested aiming to be mortgage free by his 50th birthday (March 2023) but I think we should be bold and aim for mortgage free by my 40th (Nov 2019). No idea if that's at all realistic - 8 years and 2 months more to shave off the term!

But... It has a nice ring to it! I can always shift the goal post a bit if needs be.

  • Oh my word...... Over payment calculator reckons my new goal will need op of around £575 every month to reach!

    Hmmm

Thinking that once the baby fund is filled that's around £200 most months. We're paying finance on our car which has got 2 years left to go and once that's gone it's £200 per month not going on that (wouldn't divert all of that to op pot as want to save to buy next car for cash once this one has been driven into the ground).... So assuming my job stays the same (sector a bit volatile but touch wood) I think we can make significant inroads even if we don't quite make the goal!

And just for the heck of it I've just transferred a fiver to mortgage.

I'm thinking when I don't buy something I usually would I'll transfer the money to the mortgage. So today I could really have bought ice creams and didn't.

    £6 done :D

Only just found your mortgage free diary but what a good idea, I shall tell Mrs. K. as she'll probably be up for cutting down spending money on lunch at work if it went into the mortgage. :)
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

I love your goal. Yes, it is ambitious but you have had some great ideas along the way and those small amounts will add up. Go for the goal... MF by your 40th has a nice ring - and hey if you dont make it - well you'll have made such significant inroads it'll feel totally doable soon after I bet !
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Cool! I like it because cutting down those little things don't really make you feel like you are missing out on anything but add up to a lot (e.g. say £5 on lunch 4 times per week for say 46 weeks of the year that's £920!)

Thanks Watty! That's my thinking too.

Snap Echo! Probably totally unrealistic for us, but I'm aiming for Nov 2019 too! We could only manage that if we maxed out our OPs each year for the fixed rate part though. Probably more realistic is my 40th, which is November 2024 :) xx

  • Only 6 (ish) years to mortgage freedom!

I can hear Mr Delta and Small downstairs making me breakfast. Lush!

Then out to the beach for a walk and a big fat roast at the pub. Om nom nom!
