with all due respect to posters with different opinions, I do not agree that you will be unable to approach this situation as official noise nuisance.

I say this because I once had to complain about music from neighbours and was advised from Leicester council that hearing a hair dryer or Hoover through walls could be logged as official noise nuisance.

I would suggest that should you wish to go official with this double check with the council in your area and then act accordingly.

ye it can be logged, and then you have a nuisance complaint on your property! and they still wont take any action, as logging a complaint and dealing with it are entirely different

    fair enough.

i can only comment on my situation. the council visited the offending neighbour and the music stopped. i had reached my tolerance level after one year but i can't be sure the result was just because i complained. it may be that there were multiple complaints.

    i was renting too.

regards to the complaint being on record i could care less as a homeowner now. i won't let someone infringe on my rights just because i may have to disclose that at a later date.

    whatever makes one happy!

The trouble is these things can and do escalate.

I have had 'someone' damage my car/house/garden. Never happened before I complained.

Police can't prove who it was.....so......pick your battles carefully.

My next door neighbours mow their lawn at past 10pm (twice a week or so) they also host large parties for screaming teenagers/early 20's that go on all night, and are in the (huge and thoroughly mowed) garden. We then get the (many) cars revving and car doors slamming between 3am and 6am. They are also having a lot of building work done so that starts 7am ish. It's a very large house, lots of (probably deaf based on noise levels) people living there. Oh the kids are very enthusiastic about playing during the day too.

Tbh we have no idea when or how they sleep, god knows we don't as even with windows and shutters closed it's like they are in the same room. And we have politely asked them to keep it down.............. but we now realise only moving far away from them will help.
There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.

Precisely, pick your battles carefully (advice your neighbour seems to have taken).

Or just stomp round and throw the stereo in the pool? ;)

Reminds me of what my next-door neighbour did a few years back, when people a few doors down did the same with the music in their garden.

This was 2am so he went fence-hopping with a bucket of water, and chucked it straight over their fence. :D

Yes, they did turn it off hehe.

They have a pool so headphones probably wouldn't work too well. :D

It's weird - chatting, laughing, messing about - doesn't bother me at all. It's just the music that really gets to me. And as I said before, if it was an occasional thing I wouldn't mind at all. It's just the fact it's every weekend day. Could be worse though - could be going on into the evening.

I like Marshflower's idea - I'll just keep telling myself we're going to escape soon and then when we're going on the market have a word and blame it on house viewers, not myself. :)

Having agents round for valuations this week so if the music's playing when they visit I can ask them what they think.

Can you get an invite? :D

If not, then earplugs or talk to your neighbours esp about viewings.

I feel for your OP and like you, I enjoy my piece and quiet in the garden. I cant stand inconsiderate neighbours and unfortunately the good weather is bring theming out in force.

As suggested earlier, I think the best approach would be to give them a heads-up on the viewings as ask if they could keep the noise down during these times. This way they may get the hint (or not)....
