For the few weeks of the year we have this sort of weather I would expect to hear extra noise in the garden (music / children / socialising etc. etc.).

That being said it should be a little extra noise - if you can hear their radio in your garden whilst you are sat out in it that's one thing. If you can hear every word of the song whilst you are in doors with the windows closed its too loud and I would suggest popping round and just asking if they would mind turning it down a little as its so loud you can hear it whilst watching TV. If they are nice neighbours they will probably be more embarrased as they didn't realise the sound travelled that much ;)

I think it really is mountain out of a molehill.

Sorry but it's their garden and its during the day, you can't tell people what they can and cant do on their property.

Now they may be very reasonable and even apologetic if you broach it nicely. But its upto them
Yeah, but the fact of the matter, they are playing their music inside OP's house. Not acceptable
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Maybe you could pop round and say something along the lines of " I need a huge favour - we are putting the house on the market and would ideally like a quick sale. If we let you know when the viewings are, is there any chance you could keep the music off for an hour? It's just that you can hear it in the house even with the windows closed and I think it might put prospective buyers off. It would such a huge help if you could?"

It's a reasonable request, it puts it out there that the noise is having an effect and you may well find that they are mortified you can hear it so clearly anyway and turn it down from then on.
    Worth a try....

I didn't think it would be a formal noise-nuisance issue. And I wouldn't want to make it one. It's not *that* bad and I know a lot of how stressed I'm feeling is down to me being over-sensitive to noise. I need to live in the middle of nowhere.... ;)

As I said, it's just the duration and frequency of it that's upsetting me. It's my decision to not use my garden because of it, but I'm getting more upset now it's audible inside the house.

I think it's probably mainly my issue - DIY noise, lawnmower noise etc doesn't bother me. For some reason, music really does. :(

I really feel for you. :(

I'm sensitive to some types of noise too - loud, inconsiderate music and roaring 'baked bean tin' exhausts on cars to name a couple, but like you 'everyday' noise doesn't bother me - and at the moment we've got tractors and lorries full of new potatoes trundling up and down our lane several times a day and boat engines making some very odd sounds in the bay below us - and we do live in the middle of nowhere :D.

What is it with people like your neighbours who think the whole world wants to hear them 'enjoying' their garden - I really think that many people have no concept of peace. :(

I'd have a friendly word with them - now. :)

I can imagine how annoying it is. I remember posting here on mse some years back now about inconsiderate neighbours having speakers in their gardens & had quite a few responses implying I was rather a killjoy/miserable so & so.

I still feel that if you want to listen to music outdoors, you have it on a low volume that doesn't travel & annoy other people, or you put on headphones.

I like music as much as anybody, but don't assume that everybody enjoys the same kind of rock that I do, or force people to listen to my music when the only other choice is to go inside & close all of the doors & windows.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

For me, the really inconsiderate part isn't the volume or the type of noise - it is the constant playing of music all day, all weekend.

No one should mind the occasional party or the like, but almost any noise, all weekend, would p**s me off - even if it is music I liked!

I just worry about upsetting people or coming across as totally unreasonable. There is a chance I'm just over-thinking things. ;)

I think if you go over and explain in a calm way that you can hear their music and would they mind turning it down a little then you can't perceive yourself as being unreasonable.

We put up with a noise nuisance all of last year because we didn't want to come across as unreasonable and when it started up again this spring/summer we felt we couldn't put up with another season of it and so had a word very, very nicely. We didn't expect, nor demand for it to stop completely but it did, they equally have snubbed us ever since, which is an odd reaction in my opinion but it's a blessed relief to not have the noise and I would take any snubbing over that. So I am very, very happy.

Just lean over the fence and shout "Turn that f*****g racket off or I will burn your house down". Should get some sort of reaction and take it from there.
