If you wish to argue about the number of angels who dance upon the head of a pin, then this is not the board on which to argue. I do not intend to waste any more of my time on this argument. I have stated my point of view - and also given my advice to the OP. End of (to quote current parlance).0

Angels don't exist. But that's a debate for another day.
See ya!Remember Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

I know what you're going to say next - don't be so uptight/ let your hair down.
Not at all. I, for one, respect your decision. There's nothing at all wrong with leading an ascetic lifestyle and nobody should ever be put under any pressure to take or do something they're not comfortable with. As it happens, I think it's exactly this kind of pressure - particularly in the case of alcohol - that leads to many of the social problems that are associated with recreational drugs.Of course I do drink tea and coffee but not to the extent that they could affect me like illegal drugs and alcohol can. And no I don't smoke.
I find this a little hypocritical though. The effect of any drug, legal or illegal, is proportional to the dosage. Caffeine overdose causes a range of unpleasant side effects, up to and including death. Even at moderate doses however, the body quickly becomes habituated and craves the drug when it's withdrawn. You use it sensibly, in moderation, and as a result you experience few, if any problems. It's the same with any other drug.
Your stance is depressingly common though: i.e. "the drugs I use and am familiar with are okay; everything else is dangerous""There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
So, TopQuark and 19lottie82,, you would be totally relaxed if or when you become parents, for your children to indulge in recreational drug taking?
Yeah, why not? As long as they don't over-do it. Virtually all parents allow or even encourage it, to the extent that our early drug experiences are practically a rite of passage for most people.
Sadly, the most common drug used is alcohol, which is also one of the most dangerous drugs known to science."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
Ermn no, those deaths were suspected to be due to tablets containing the substance PMA, not MDMA as they were expected to, hence the users are consuming substances under the wrong conditions
Of course, these deaths could have been avoided by not taking drugs altogether, but as history shows, millions of people enjoy recreational substances, legal or not, its unlikely that is ever going to happen. So you could argue that the killer here is prohibition, as a legalised and controlled substance would not have contained a different substance than that expected0 -

I'm not using tea and coffee as a drug. A cup of tea with breakfast and sometimes a cup of coffee in the afternoon is hardly my dosing myself with drugs. I often have de-caff too.
I think your grasping at straws.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope Mrs Angry updates us with what has happened between her and her husband.
(And that her response doesn't get lost in the debate, it isn't fair to hijack somebody's thread)0 -
I am certainly no 'drug' advocate, but I do think that a lot of the dangerousness of the illegal drugs, cocaine, ecstasy etc, and deaths come from what it's cut with. The people who produce and sell them can cut them with really dangerous, nasty stuff, and the people who buy them are clueless and probably don't care about it.
Now, I'm sure legalisation would get some sort of a handle on the harmful cutting, but even legalised there will be some bloke in a back alley selling pills a third less than the Government, and chances are an addict will buy from them as they are saving money.
It's very contentious.0 -

Sorry. I don't think anyone was doing it to purposely hijack the thread.
mrs angry might find the debate useful given that one of the topics she and her husband are not in agreement with, is the drugs issue. Reading differing opinions may help them understand each other's point of view.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
