Brrrr, definite chill in the air now. Boiler broke on us last week but fixed now thank goodness. Sure we were swizzed over the cost of the part but when you have no heating or hot water you hardly feel like saying 'I'll get it myself online, come back in a week to fit it.'
Glad you got your heating fixed Kerri, I know it was more than you wanted to pay but it had to be done quickly.

Morning Kerri - that reminds me of a time we used to have British Gas cover when the kids were little - they condemned our boiler one cold November - even took a part out so we couldn't use it! Altered vent outside and they re-instated it days later. Sacked them after that, use a local gas company now on a PAYG basis - worked out much better for us
Morning to CW too (get well soon) and everyone elseIf at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -
I might have a call round a few local companies and see what their call out charge is for next time (although hopefully that won't be anytime soon after a new motherboard and value in it this year). Still, I guess I should be glad we do have the funds to pay for it, and it's an annoyance more than anything - some would be far worse off.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Good morning everyone.
Its raining here and cold and its not helping my cold/cough at all. going to doctors tomorrow.
We have British gas insurance to repair our boiler. They installed the boiler so we took out a monthly contract to service and repair it. They have been called out loads of times for repairs so I know we have probably had our monies worth on costs.

Sometimes insurance pays CW but if it's a new boiler why has it needed so many repairs or is it a few years old now? We had a new boiler fitted (Worcester Bosch) when we had our extension built (finished about 18 months ago) and I will be booking it's first service soon - it's been faultless.
Hope the doctor sorts you out

Morning everyone
Hope your all keeping warm in this cold damp weather. Thats probably what gave me and my son a cold/sore throat. Now I have a chest infection and am fed up with coughing. Doctor gave me antibiotics and steroids.
So wrap up warm when you go out.

Hi Jeferey
my boiler is now 12 years old. Its a Worcester one and was put in as when we bought this house it had oil central heating, When the oil boiler broke we had gas central heating put in.
Tbh its always been a nuisance and breaks down at least once a year. So even one call out and the annual service is probably covered by the monthly payments.
One year it broke down 3 times, that was a couple of years ago but I seem to remember one of the parts they replaced was about £70. Then we got a leak from the boiler, which is in the kitchen btw and even though it was only a drip it was difficult to fix as they couldn;t find out what the problem was.
I also like the cover for peace of mind as it did break down once on Boxing day and it would have cost a fortune to get someone else out.

12 years old - that explains it CW! Should last for quite a few years yet though.
Our boiler used to be in the kitchen but when we had the new one fitted they put it in the loft as we didn't need the tanks anymore. I fitted the kitchen and had hidden it behind a cupboard so now it's nice to have another cupboard available for storage.
Bad news on the chest infection, keep taking those tablets and hopefully you'll soon be on the mend...

Morning everyone
When the gas man came to service the boiler last month they tried to persuade me to buy a new boiler, saying how much smaller they are now etc. It didn;t work:rotfl:as far as I am concerned if its not broken don;t fix it. I would get a new boiler if i had to though but not atm.
