what percentage is used up by video, and in what format

60GB of my 80GB Hard Disk is taken up by the video files which are in MPG Format. Some of the videos are 1.5GB in size.

That is a ATA/PATA/IDE HDD. Not SATA.

Anyway your problem has been solved, so this is only if you want to fit a larger hard rive once you get your Recovery Disc.

    Hi NiftyDigits,

Would it be possible for you to help me in getting the Recovery Disc? Thanks.

back them up to an external hard drive (or 2), and burn them to dvd's, then you can clear some space.

If you are thinking of replacing the internal optical disc writer, it may also be an IDE drive. They are relatively expensive new(perhaps £22), so you can consider used or an external writer.

Your Specs are great. You should reformat it to remove any hidden malwares

At long last I've managed to remove a lot of stuff from my HD and put onto a second internal HD. (The one I bought was faulty and had to wait for a replacement then my CD writer needed replacing too.) The videos are also saved on an external HD drive. I've also got a windows XP installation disc. Thank you Here Today for helping me with that. I've an idea of what to do next but I'd like advice from the more knoledegeable on here. What are the next steps for me to take to do a Windows XP re-install?

Back up your Drivers to a USB drive and external hard drive or a CD. You'll need to unzip the package and run the application.

Install XP from boot From there you can format the drive to NTFS and install Windows XP.

Once installed, you can use the Driver Backup program to restore Drivers.
