Do you know their LL or LA? Could you have a discreet word, or send a letter (to the LL or LA i mean)?

They sound like they could be neighbours from hell if they put their minds to it, I'd be glad they liked me enough to invite me and go just to keep them onside :rotfl:

If it wasn't for the ages of the children I would swear you are living in my old house, I moved out three years ago after four years there and while I never actually went to any of the "parties" I was invited to most of them and I always dreaded them.

It wasn't just the parties but any glimpse of sunshine and they'd be out in the garden all day with ridiculously loud chavvy music and they'd be there until late in the night/early hours.

I've got no advise but can sympathise with your situation.

They own the house!!! They bought it on right to buy about 15 years ago! For about £12-15K ... (the market value was about £30-£35K at the time...) I think it's mostly paid for.

We went to some "iffy" neighbours BBQ's a few years ago.
I got into a seemingly harmless conversation with a guy, and he suddenly turned a bit nasty, and then just as quickly went OK again, saying - "All good bruv, all good".

He is now inside for attempted murder:eek:

If you don't want to attend these events, then don't go - make up an excuse, because life is too short to share company with horrible people.
  • Why worry that you cant/wont go? They are only asking you anyway because that way they figure you cant complain about the noise (ie because you've been asked to be part of it).

They aren't asking you because they actually WANT you to be there.

The fact they are asking you at the last minute is proof positive its not a real "ask" iyswim (as in they are hoping you will have something else arranged and won't come anyway).

To be honest if they are swearing and being abusive to their young children I would be tempted to make an anonymous phone call to social services. Those poor children

You should go... they might decide not to invite you any more thinking you believe yourself above them/snooty etc.. :p ..

and it will give you a clearer idea of how they treat the children beyond calling them rude things... which may determine whether you need to ring SS or not!
