forget all the 'he has rights etc nonsense' change the locks, simple reason he is not a happy bunny with you and has access to your home, he has made threats, he is a DRUG DEALER! now just imagine for a moment he tried to make things awkward there is nothing to stop him keeping a few baggies in your house hidden and getting you reported to police anon like telling them where YOU keep YOUR stash......... get straight to a legal eagle go for an injunction (with powers of arrest i think it is), then the lock thing becomes irrelevant.
yes by the letter of law he does have rights etc BUT after the threats he has made and the drugs does anyone realy think a judge would consider what you did as unreasonable? i doubt it. on the other hand if you were ever stitched up and there was any doubt about who the drugs in your house belonged too you could end up with very uncomfortable interviews with social services. ok maybe all a bit strong but protect yourself and child change locks get injunction and protect yourself.
very best wishes J
This emotional rant is not helping the OP.
Just because you don't think the law should apply, does not mean that the OP can just disregard it.0 -
sorry you thougght it was a rant!! it wasnt intended as one, i was being realistic to what may happen, and to be honest for the OP i would advocate safety first. sometimes you got to do whats right and best for yourself and child regardless what the law say's. i would prefer her to be safe than worry about his right to enter the house!!! what matters more to you? This emotional rant is not helping the OP.

GM11... THIS^^^^ is the best advice any of us can give OP.
Changing the locks without getting an injunction leaves her open to him breaking the door or window to get in, which would be more frightening than if he uses a key - and she couldn't use it against him because in law it would be OP in the wrong.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

You are adamant that your suggestion is right and is best for the OP. We fundamentally disagree there.
The ex can legally break in, at any time, leaving the house insecure and her waiting with baited breath for consequences / damage / arrival. That's hardly safe or best for the OP.
The OP has been given repeated suggestions to do this properly via a solicitor, which means that the ex has no right to come to the house or to enter it, and with a power of arrest if he breaches it.
That is far safer than her breaking the law in the short term and waiting for his next move.0 -
The dangers GM11 is warning of are a real worry. Gosh what if he did plant drugs so OP got arrested?
GM11 is also advocating "get straight to a legal eagle go for an injunction (with powers of arrest i think it is),"
Lets hope that by now that's what has happened and OP is in the safe professional hands of an expert solicitor.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.
