But that is not UKIP's policy at all (if you are inferring it is).

If you read the policy, you will see that they support development of other sources of electricty, not just shale gas.

I was merely making the point that there are a few hundred years worth of shale gas and it is a reource we can tap into nearly immediately, meaning energy bills would be cheaper and the economy boosted.

I wasn't inferring that it was their policy :)

I don't agree that tapping into a resource will reduce energy bills.

With energy companies boasting about their multi-million pound profits I'm sure if they wanted to reduce the prices & boost the economy then they would do so, and could have done over the last few years.

What I suspect would happen is that they may not hike the prices so much over a few years, but they would continue to make more profits. I don't believe that they would have any intention of reducing the prices enough to make much difference (if they reduced them at all - which I don't believe they would).

Whilst these companies are very large, granted, let's not forget that they are run by a few people. These people are fed by their own greed to maintain bonuses that many people in this country would not earn within their lifetime.

Rabbit Burrow, you seem to be the only one who is willing to debate the energy issue. Fair play to you for that. The other Ukip haters looking in on this thread would seem to rather poke fun/muddy the waters/talk 6 pages of absolute ballcocks about weather a 20 yr old lad was reaching for a phone or making a Nazi salute!

    Here's my energy manifesto;

Cancel all 'green energy' feed in bonuses.
Keep the coal fired power stations going.
    Get fracking.
    Build gas fired power stations.

You seem to think that the power companies will keep prices high regardless?
Where on earth do you get that from?
EDF have a big presence here. Prices are half in France. Go figure!

You've mentioned France a few times - wouldn't it be better to look at why their costs are lower rather than assuming your suggestions would lead to similar energy costs here?

c75% of their electricity comes from nuclear.

How do energy costs compare to to other European countries? I thought the UK was the cheapest after France so maybe it's not all bad.

armour, probably the reason why not many are willing to discuss Ukip's energy policy, is because it's a load of populist claptrap.

It starts off by assuming climate change is a myth. Their 'evidence' is a Channel 4 programme called "The Great Global Warming Swindle". The 'evidence' shown in this programme has been totally debunked. Google it. Google its producer Martin Durkin also. The info is out there.

It then carries on to ridicule 'green jobs' citing a study : "Effects on employment of public aid to renewable energy
sources” by Professor Gabriel Calzada Alvarez at King Juan Carlos University.
Again, google who financed this bit of research and open your eyes. Read up on other reports ripping this study to shreds due to poor methodology and analysis and draw your conclusion.

Ukip's energy policy is populist babble. Who doesn't want cheap energy?

Reality is, the era of cheap energy is over.
We need a balanced mix of renewables (solar, wind, tidal), conventionally powered gas stations (or coal with carbon capture), big investment in nuclear, and yes, get fracking also. None of these are going to come cheap.

Incorrect, prices are similar to the UK
