  • Haven't read all of it, but to answer their question in the first few paragraphs "why not just build the gas?", well that's the point really isn't it? Natural gas is not a renewable source, so to rely on it entirely would be misguided.

    The point made about "we have plenty of gas capacity, providing the flexibility to back up wind" is more than likely meant to be taken in the context of 'we have plenty of gas as a back up, but not plenty enough to be the only source'

    Well the stance on immigration and Europe is a significant difference, only recently have the other parties started to even talk about the issue. Conservatives are trying to promise a referendum and Labor will offer a referendum.

    There is the energy policy, on which the poster above has invited sensible debate. Clearly there is no more fun in posting alleged Nazi salute photos now that it has been exposed as childish attacks.

    Other policies are not the same as the tory right wing, but all parties need offer an NHS policy which provides the best bang for the buck.
    Last time i checked, Labour hadnt decided on their policy on this (not to mention everything else).

    Yes that is true. Just to reinforce the point I was making though, despite them claiming for a long time that there is no chance of them offering a referendum, before the next general election my prediction is that they will fold and offer one (and of course expect everyone to suddenly forget their former approach to the subject.

    Before anyone asks - no I don't have any evidence, yes I do have fat words, and yes the fat words can be marked, so you can mark my fat words that this will be the case....

    If you catch my drift.

    They are not suggesting that gas should be the only source, but we are currently relying more and more on imported gas over which we have no control over the pricing. If you read the policy you will see that UKIP support research into other renewable sources of energy such as harnessing the power of tides (which are predictable and reliable unless skynet blows the moon out of the sky) - with the caveat that it provides a cost effective solution, which wind power doesn't.

    The EU is ordering us to close some coal power stations, UKIP have provided links to research which argues against the claims that carbon emissions are causing climate change. It seems bonkers that we have EU CO2 targets to hit by 2020 when the "reasons" for the targets are scientifically in question.

    Ukip also support development of Nuclear power stations (which take 12 years to build as opposed to 4 years for coal). Obviously the Green campaigners will be up in arms about that one but it can be done safely and provides cheap electricity.

    Not totally sure I agree with that. Accidents cost millions of pounds when they happen.

    A Nuclear power station up and running is the cheapest form of electricity. The cost is in decommissioning.

    Still gaining ground;

    How is picking up Tory rejects "gaining ground"?
    All three councillors were named in the deselection row that has been pulling the party apart in recent months. Cllrs Eden and Osborne were not formally deselected but chose not to run for the party, while Cllr Binion was denied candidature by the Romford Conservative Party’s approvals committee.

    In what universe isn't it gaining ground?

    It increases UKIPs numbers.

    I think a lot of defectors to UKIP will be branded Tory "Rejects", it's just another way to make a foul slur. Obviously they're not going to be popular in the Tory party. When Victoria Ayling defected to UKIP, Cameron didn't take it "too well".
