The free life cover sounds like a "sit down with an insurance salesman, face a pitch and then get cover".

My kids are too old anyway.

    Got it in one.

All marketing material is now up in branches, so it should be easy enough to get further details.

Fact is out there in this country not enough people have life cover/critical illness cover in place. People either brush it under the carpet or think they'll be ok.

It's amazing how people get so hung up about insuring their mobiles, pets and washing machines, but don't seem bothered about themselves or their loved ones.

And as for is it a ploy so they can sell you more, you don't have to say yes do you?

I have 2 'dormant' Halifax accounts, and I have a 2 Lloyds accounts both with dd's etc coming out of them, but I feed money from one to the other.

So in theory Could I set up a regular payment from one Lloyds account to the other, and then 'say' that was my main account, and then switch? is there a min amount that needs to go into the Halifax account? and how long before you get the £100? and then how long before I can make it dormant again:D

true again - - but how many people will feel embarrassed / intimidated / obliged to say yes after they got the sales pitch? Particularly younger ones who have kids under 5 - they got a million and one things one their minds, and might not be experienced enough to put a foot down to a trained salesperson.

I wonder what happens when the kids have their 5th birthday?

Also wonder why don't Halifax have the T&Cs of these offers online? Surely they aren't concerned that people would discuss the pros and cons on the internet?

good Qs. Hopefully they will have written T&Cs in the branches so we should work out the answers before long. Hopefully they'll also put them on their website in the next 24 hours or so.

hope so, as I can only see the offer for 'new' customers.

Regarding point 1 of your new post: I was told in Branch that the account to be switched
    1. needs to have just 1 DD
    2. does not need to have any automated credit. But if it has, it needs to be switched
    3. must be closed

I was told same thing today on a visit to a branch, I have an appointment in two weeks time on that basis.

Was told whether there are automated credits etc and/or Direct Debits currently going in/out of the accounts is irrelevant.

Basic requirement is 1 direct debit or automated credit to be transferred with transferred out account closed.

OK, so if I don't have a regular automated credit going into the account I want to switch from, will I still get the £100 (assuming I qualify on the other conditions)?

Can't see how Halifax could see whether I have an automated credit, and/or its origin, so I should be alright whether I have one or not?

nor can i. i would assume that putting a credit into the account each month will qualify for that element, regardless of whether it was appearing in the 'to be closed' account during previous months.
