I am asking for advice about false accusations and making up stories - I do not believe anyone addressed that in their posts but everyone jumped on my for having "more animals than I should"

That's because its relevant and the biggest issue.

    Sorry, but it is.

Anyway, you do what you think is right, good luck.

I feel for you it can't be nice having someone 'getting at you' all the time.

However unfortunately she is not breaking any rules. Making up stories about someone is not against a tenancy agreement nor is getting drunk. But having more animals than agreed is. Therefore she holds all the cards. People have complained about her but she is still living there as she has not done anything to break her agreement, morally she is acting awful but legally she has done nothing wrong, whereas you have. It might not be fair but it is the law.

Like others I suggest you speak to the council to try to get the number of cats you are allowed increased, is your daughter still with you? if she has moved on can she not have her cats back?

Before you do anything get some advise from the CAB on what the council are likely to do, if you own up you have 6 cats and get letters from you neighbours that you are a good neighbour and the cats cause no trouble ask the CAB what is likely to happen. Once you are living there within your agreement you can then start to cause trouble for this women complaining about her actions.

I would agree, 7 animals in a flat is taking the P.

It's surprising only one other tenant has so far had an issue, I very much doubt the council will ever give permission for that.

Slightly lateral thinking, and avoiding the ground that's been gone over, is it possible to look for a flat somewhere else?

Away from this neighbour, still within reach of a good dog walking spot and where you can live somewhere with easier access outside for cats that you can be allowed to have on the tenancy agreement. Presumably stairs might be a concern for Zara as she gets older too?

She isn't sub letting, she has a non dependant living with her. There isn't a lot you can do about the accusations as they are vague, but you are in breach of your tenancy agreement. I would ignore her, personally, she may well write ranting letters to the council already. We had a few tenants who would rant about everything and obviously had mental health issues.

I don't know what I would do in your situation if it came out about your pets as you are in breach of tenancy agreement and I think the RSPCA would say that you have too many pets in a one ? bedroomed flat . I would just keep my head down and ignore her.

Now she does, but before her daughter moved in she was renting out a room. In a taxpayer owned property. Whether she had permission was very relevant to the potential outcome of any complaints against a her.

@Treevo - if you are so up to date with my life in general pls do also mention that I have been/am a taxpayer myself for absolute ages and at a pretty high rate too. As well as I pay my rent/council tax in full without any benefits AND had the council permission to take a temporary lodger in.

At the rate I was/am paying MY taxes, I am pretty sure several people could enjoy staying at home on their bums watching Jeremy Kyle on their 42 inch plasmas.

    Happy?

some people including my own neighbours just like to make up stories to get attention/to be able to stop you and have some spent chatting. Please don't let her spoil yours and others enjoyment of your well kept and mannoured animals

That might be difficult, I would be surprised if any landlord would give permission for 7 animals in their flat.

If you're concerned, have a word with your housing officer - it's likely that if she's got a history of antisocial behaviour, they'll be aware of her already, and may well take any complaints she has with a big pinch of salt. I wouldn't worry yourself unnecessarily - if you're not in arrears and other tenants haven't made a complaint then it's very unlikely that the council will take action against you. I know that doesn't help with the day to day reality of living with awful neighbours, but at the end of the day, so long as your home is secure, that's the important thing. Ignoring her won't make her go away, but it's pretty much your only option.
