  • I HATE Amex - it's so shady and uncustomer friendly of them to charge retailers more than any other credit card does, not to mention not fair on the retailers! Totally shocking customer service! Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to boycott them, as my corporate card is an Amex (stupid American employers not interested in our complaints about it!) but I can confirm that, surprisingly, Nandos (peri-peri yum yum!) do accept Amex, thankfully, or I don't know where we'd send people for the lunches we give them as prizes!

I find 99% of restaurants take it to be honest but don't want too. Couple of restaurants around me that 'magically' take it when I say I don't have any other cards. :P

But other card issuers charge as well - by your measure they're also shady and uncustomer friendly as well, presumably just to a slightly lesser degree.

But I have to take issue with your critisism of their customer service. Over a great number of years I've held a good few CCs and have never experienced customer service as good as AmEx's from any of the others - by a wide margin.

I find I can use my AmEx (and get 1% cashback!) for 90% of monthly expenditure (petrol/food/travel/accommodation), I accept there's a need for a second non-AmEx card in my wallet as well, but I rarely need to use it.

  • I agree with pvt. AMEX do charge more via merchant fees but their customer service is good. I use mine in all major retailers but carry a VISA card for those who don't take. Not a big issue and if you don't like AMEX close the account

  • South East Water does NOT accept but i think ebuyer does accept AMEX. They do not try to create monopoly like SEW. For more info please visit: clickmonopolyreview dot com.
