  • I used to run a hotel and was seriously annoyed when I noticed that one of the new staff had accepted an AMEX card for payment.

When any card is used to pay for an item, the merchant has to pay for an authorisation code.

Through the bank we were with at the time, AMEX used to charge :
    1. £5 for us accepting the card as a payment method
    2. 5% for the total amount being charged to the card

Going by those charges you can understand why AMEX cards aren't accepted by all vendors, in particular independent retailers or shops which primarily sell low priced goods.
  • notonthehighstreet.com now accept American Express.
  • Go Outdoors now accept Amex (used to annoy me that they didn't when Millets/Blacks did).

"b and q" used to take amex, but no longer . .
  • If more credit card companies refused to deal with gambling sites, fewer people would be in debt
  • That could be the reason why i want to slimming.
  • Thank you so much for this thread :D Now I have a long list of who accept and who doesn't!
