my local pub takes amex but it crashes the till if they swipe it. i look forward to that bit everytime.

How often does the list on the front page get updated? Its not so helpful to keep track of outlets that do/don't take Amex if you have to read through 23 pages of stuff.

we will not be taking amex in our shop any more
Reasons are higher charges for merchants
longer time to get to our bank
and an absolute maze to get to merchant services

a lot of private Hotels will not accept Amex.-also true in a lot of Europe & most of Africa. You must always check when you book; otherwise it can get a tad embarassing.

Quite frustrating really - work for a US firm; so have a corporate Amex; useless as so few hotels & resturants take it. My US colleagues have VISA; needless to say they have the same problem with VISA in the US (though not quite so bad) as we have with Amex in EMEA.
