Hello
Would just like to say that I actually work for Amex and they are aways asking us to find out about the shops that don't accept Amex. If enough cardholders complain about not being able to use thier card in certain establishments they will do thier best to get that company accepting Amex a.s.a.p. Obviously there are some exceptions, Amex seem to have a bad reputation in some circles but this is something they are trying to change. So complain away to Amex its what they want
Hark at me, you'd think I was getting commission or something wouldn't you but alas I am just a lowley office drone0 -
Actually, talking of shops that don't accept the card, I'd like to name (and shame) https://www.theperfectshave.co.uk
They have the option for "amex" in the drop-down menu under card type, but there is not a single way anyone can select that. Whichever Amex card I've tried it's rejected, giving me a stupid message that you have to include all details as they are on your card and account. The owner (sole trader) just doesn't seem to care.
Anyway, just another to look out for!0 -
Hi Does anyone know if Ford Dealerships take this card, as I will then use it to spend 4K on a car for the 5% cashback? Am I allowed to spend 4K in one transaction and get 5% cashback?
Also how long does it take to get one of these cards as I will be picking up my car next week, or the week after?
Thank you0 -

Sorry, I haven't been following the thread and this may duplicate other comments
As a Merchant, ie one who takes payment by CC, I would not take Amex because their T&Cs, including the fee they charge, are unacceptable. I imagine that's why most people won't touch them.
If I had an Amex card I would cut it up. Actually I did just that, years ago, and have never ever found since that I needed it, in Europe, N America, Middle East, North Africa or Asia.
I don't know about the rest of the world, but I would think it's the same.0 -
Could the fact that IKEA UK charge you 75p to use a standard credit card have anything to do with the fact they won't accept Amex, as it is a costlier card for the merchant in any event, and that is why they do not take it0

Before I consider applying for a card, and to save me going through these 14 pages, could anyone tell me if Lidl's take Amex?0
