  • No, he is a troll from another thread who thinks he knows the policies of every emergency service, in every county with regards to blue light driver training. When he clearly isn't qualified himself. And because he won't accept facts he gets abusive.

Er, not quite. Just caught you out for talking crap.

Just like motorguy has done on this thread.

No you didn't, and what I said was backed up by many other blue light qualified people in the thread.

You aren't qualified, so the only knowledge of the subject you seem to have is from google.

Now stop dragging your trolling from another thread into this one.

    Who by?

Ado,who hasn't done an advanced course.

When asked to back up your claims you failed to do so.

Your mechanical and driving skills are equal. Non existent.

Now log off to bed as you don't want motorguy mugging you off further.

If it makes you happy to think that, then do so. But you are taking threads OFF TOPIC!!!!!!

    Sooooo...

Just got the car back from Vauxhall. They did a 'basic' check (as much as they could without stripping the engine out to determine exactly what's going on, which would have cost several hundred...) and determined that there is actually oil in all 4 plugs, and the engine is evidently burning oil. There was apparently smoke coming out of the exhaust, although I'm pretty sure this is a recent development (since last week).

The guys at Vauxhall have seen this problem before apparently (won't be a surprise to many of you, reading through this thread) and suggested using a much thicker oil (15W 40, as opposed to the 5W 30 that was in it before) to see if this helps. So they drained the oil out, replaced the oil filter and replaced all of the spark plugs. Would be surprised if it fixed the problem, but should prolong things a bit apparently.

Obviously on top of this, I'll be monitoring the oil / spark plugs.

Next time I'm just forking out for a much newer car.

Did Vauxhall suggest it could be the valve stem oil seals?

Also, official GM (vaux) oil is 10/40 semi synthetic for that generation so might be worth trying that and an oil + filter change to see if it helps resolve it.

Just come across this (almost wish I hadn't!)

Re-winding to the beginning... is the OP absolutely 100% sure that the seller was in fact private? Has he checked?

Could be a trader posing as a private seller which would turn the situation onto it's head.

They didn't suggest anything with the engine - only that they would have to take the whole thing apart to properly get to the bottom of it.

Given the cost of replacing the oil filter and oil vs taking the car apart for potentially being told a new engine was necessary (would just write the car off...) we opted to go with the former for now.

The Autotrader advert is no longer available, though I'm pretty certain that it was a private seller. How would I go about checking this?

Look at the V5 to see if he is/was actually the RK. When was the last change of keeper recorded? If you still have his phone number, get a friend to ring saying they are "enquiring about the car he has for sale". If he answers "which one?" you know he is a trader.

I don't mean to be rude, but I'm going to be anyway.

Do you actually read the posts before you comment?

Or are you advising the Op to change the oil and filter, even though he had it done today?
