Hi everyone,
I got my free insulation fitted by British Gas a couple of weeks - thanks for the tip off Martin... Anyone know what I do to claim the £50 gift card, as I applied through the MSE link.
Thanks!0 -
Before claiming your free loft insulation you might need to check the size of your loft hatch. It will need to meet the standard size of 16" x 20" otherwise it's a no. I have an old cottage with a small loft hatch - 13" x 19". British Gas cannot therefore do the work, or provide the free loft insulation for me ... bad luck eh...
Hope this helps,

Just a heads-up on a new offer from Taylor Building Contractors of Leicester. They are Green Deal building insulation installers and they can apply for Government grants on your behalf to cover all or some of your insulation costs. But - they have an offer on at the moment of £100 voucher for the "first 10 successful applicants" for these grants.

How do I contact these companies with queries. I presently have my house rented out as I am working overseas. Also it is not of standard design. Firstly it is on a pedestrianized road and only vehicle access from the rear which is approx. 60 foot from rear of property (I'm thinking about cavity wall insulation supply piping here) also it is of a dormer construction so unless insulation was applied between roof joists it would not insulate all surfaces downstairs ceiling & bedroom walls) also dormer roof in one bedroom would only be accessible to blown or cavity type insulation. why are things never simple ???0

Hi Saver58. Just go to their website. Phone or email or use their Contact Us form. They will usually then come out and survey your property to see how best to insulate it and give you a quotation for the work (survey and quotation should be free). Then they can apply for any grants you qualify for and let you have a final quotation, less any grants.0

Yes, I would like to know the answer to that one, as I had British Gas do the installation last week, after going through the MSE link.

My wife called British Gas recently about free cavity wall insulation, and were told we don't qualify because our house was built after 1983, and was assumed to have it.
In fact, it was built in 2002! When we bought it last year, the surveyor's report and EPC "assumed" it was installed (so did we), but apparently at the time of building it was only a "recommendation", not mandatory.
An independent surveyor drilled and checked our walls earlier this year - they are definitely empty, which explains why the house lost heat so quickly last winter.
I notice a few posts in this thread from back in May, but MSE haven't updated their guidelines regarding the cut-off date of 1983. Has anyone had any luck with other companies?
Thanks.0 -
This might be of interest. I applied for loft insulation from British Gas in June after seeing it on MSE. They did a survey, and told us we were entitled.. When we rang to book they said they had nothing until JULY 2015!!! we have been told to ring "Later". A bit disappointed....0

You need an energy assessor who can also carry out the borescope survey to do the EPC and then it can go ahead.
I would recommend contacting some smaller green deal installers as they may have there own person in house or will know of someone who can do this.
Because to get the funding, you need the recommendation for cavity wall insulation to be on the EPC and this is the only way you could do that."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
