Did they powerflush your system Pollar Bill?
Mine installed boiler but did not power flush system or leave me with a magnaclean - spoke to them and they said they didn't pay for the extras so they were not fitted.
My British Gas engineer who checked it for our homecare plan said he felt it was strange this was not done.0 -

I thought it was flushed but can't be sure. The engineer who came out yesterday found a lot of black bits in the filter which he said was because the heating system was old. I wouldn't expect it to be that dirty in 6 weeks if it had been flushed.0 -

Sounds like they didn't flush it - it usually takes 4 hours and involves connecting pipes to the system and running it outside to a machine.
You were lucky to get the Magnaclean systems which costs about £300-£400.
I just got a filter that stops the limescale in the cold water supply pipe.
I might get onto my installer again.
Who was your energy company that you contacted for the free boiler and who installed it?0 -

Ha, that's rich coming from British Gas:rotfl::rotfl:
It was BG who installed mine (my history of problems can be read on earlier posts on this thread), there's no way BG would have carried out a power flush, although they add chemical inhibitors (fernox) to the system. No free magnaclean either.0 -
Hi all I just wanted to post a positive experience with applying for & actually getting a boiler fitted at absolutely no cost to me.
I'm a single parent to a 17yr old, a homeowner with mortgage & in receipt of both working & child tax credits I earn around £11,000 a year.
Back in Sept 2013 I went online to see if I was eligible for a free boiler as mine was 20yrs old, working but British gas had labelled it as a G rating at my last service.
Npower seemed to be my best bet but to clarify I rang & spoke to someone who confirmed I may qualify.
2weeks later a surveyor visited took pix of the house, old boiler etc & also took photos of mortgage statement, tax credits papers & proof of income. I was told to wait around 4weeks for a call to say whether they would go ahead & true to their word I got a call & an appointment was made for another guy to assess the work to be done.
Only issue I had was on the day they were due from 2pm onwards but they arrived 2hrs early & i was still at work! My daughter let him in & he then had to ring me at work to discuss the job.
Not an ideal situation but he explained if I wanted a combo boiler it would cost me extra but if I was happy to have a new like for like ( baxi solo) then it would be free. He then answered anything else I wanted to know.
Next had to wait about 3weeks for a date for installation & they gave me 16th Jan 2014.........
Safe to say it's been done now no problems working great with a year's free cover & the guy was here around 6hrs fitting it (they took away all rubbish & old boiler)
I'm proof of a happy ending if you like & can't recommend NPower enough & NO I don't work for them! Any questions feel free to ask!
P.s also had 2 radiator thermostat valves fitted & they also added the stuff they clean the system with & flushed it through,Magnaclean filter also fitted0 -
Can anyone advise whether the Boiler Grant qualifying threshold is £15,860 plus your child/tax credits or is it your earnings including tax credits? Also do you have to get it done by your energy supplier or can you source if from another one? Thanks in advance0

It is your earnings not including tax credits and you can apply via any supplier who offers it. There is a comprehensive MSE guide if you google.0 -

Working tax credit is included as earnings though that probably doesn't apply in your case. Just thought it may be useful information.0
