I emailed SSE early last week and asked that it be put on the desk of the CEO stating my unpleasant experience of getting a 'free' boiler. Also said I had contacted my MP and letter has gone to the Dept of Energy. I am still waiting!!!0

Just had the assessor from npower round .... What a complete waste of my life .!!! I'm on low income, get working tax credits, child tax credits and you cant get parts for my 8 year old boiler.Apparently the house is group d for efficiency....Cant have a new boiler ,because even though it,s probably obsolete, it was more than 86% efficient when new... This whole scheme stinks .. sounds like all the money is going to assessors and other non jobs.
The only advise was get double glazing and more energy efficient lightbulbs....
Can I get them to remove all the information they have on my property?0 -

Hi Wooody,,,The Energy Savings Trust told me to refer them to Trading Standards if they refused to delete info. The provider confirmed in writing that they had indeed deleted my details.0 -
Sorry.. forgot to mention that the boiler is broken..
Better change the wording on your website stating ......
"If your boiler is not an inefficient model , just broken, you may be offered a repair, rather than a new boiler "0 -
An update on the replacement of oil-fired boilers under the scheme:
E.on is the only company offering any help, and then only if you are a customer of theirs.
Apparently, the "subsidy" is in the form of 51% payment towards the cost of a new boiler; the occupier still has to pay 49%, so anyone expecting a "free" or nearly-free boiler would be very disappointed.
Given that these schemes are aimed at people with earnings below £16k pa, I doubt that many would have £2.5k+ to spare in order to contribute to a replacement boiler, which conveniently allows the energy companies to avoid having to shell any money out and simultaneously increases demand for inefficient electric heating, which increases their profits. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

had help link fit my free boiler ???? with an extra fee of £450 ,once fitted had to have them back as no signal was going to the thermostat which stopped the heating working ....electrician found that it hadnt been wired up right ....then one of the radiators wasnt working at the bottom of the stairs...before ringing them again decided to check if the radiator had been turned off which it had so turned it back on ....to find water pouring out all over the new carpet so quickly turned it off .Phoned helplink yet again to be told its not there fault its wear and tear on the radiator but they could give me a quote for a new one .....why had it been turned off by the gas fitter ????if he didnt know it was leaking .They wont come out to see the radiator so had an independant gas fitter come give me a quote to be told helplink should have told me that the old radiators might not cope with the new pressure of the boiler and could burst which it has , they didnt tell me anything like this, and new radiators should be fitted with a new boiler to stop this happening also thermostatic radiator valves should be fitted in accordance to building regs which helplink have not fitted any .....im not happy with the service and aftercare of helplink but ive been given no number i just keep ringing the free phone number given and being transferred but amazingly keeps getting cut off ....anyone know what i can do next ????0 -

You could also try trading standards as well as the work seemed to be shoddy at best.0

A lot of the information here is just wrong!!
The 'free boiler and insulation' is paid for by the big six energy companies.
If you want to have a free boiler or free insulation you have to go to a green deal installer (if you go to one of the energy suppliers they just pass you details onto a local green deal installer) so its quicker to just go direct to a green deal installer.
The green deal installer then has an EPC carried out on the property and collects evidence of you eligibility (i.e. pension credit, child tax credit... etc.)
The EPC is then used to calculate the annual savings that would be made by fitting the new boiler, the figure is then calculated by the life time of the boiler (12 years is the figure that is used). This 'lifetime savings' figure is then multiplied by the payment rate which varies month to month.
As an example a house having a non condensing boiler replaced with a condensing combi has an annual saving of 1000 multiplied by 12 years = 12000. This figure is then multiplied by the current rate say 12pence so this would equal £1440 payable to the installer.
These figures are just to illustrate the calculation and they obviously vary depending on individual properties and what the current rate is the energy companies are paying.
So if the end amount payable to the installer is less than the amount it will cost to fit the boiler they will ask you the householder for a contribution to cover their costs and if the amount is more than the cost of the installation their quids in.
So the more amount of energy that can be saved the better for the installer (more profit) and better for the householder (get the boiler completely free)
So this is why some people have to make a contribution and other don't, and if you want the job done quickly and efficiently just go on to the Green Deal Participants register and contact a couple of local green deal installers and see who can do it the quickest."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
