  • Anyone would think, that the contractors are inundated, incompetent or just on a go slow, still cant get my head around dyson saying that there is not the same pot of money and a contribution would be needed, what a load of tosh. The pot of money is there to be spent for those that apply to get a new boiler if the old one is inefficient. You can,t start widening the goal posts again because the government has put the date out to 2017.all imo of course!
  • I applied for a boiler under this scheme with SSE in about October of last year. I heard nothing for a month or so, then got a letter from SSE apologising for the wait, stating that the demand was so high that it could be a while before the property can be assessed. As of today I have still had no contact from anyone, so I will be ringing SSE to try and find out a time scale.
    So far I'm not impressed!

Hi just wondering if anyone can give me some advice.we get our boiler serviced every year by British Gas the last couple of times the engineer has mentioned that we should look into a new boiler because they are now struggling to find spare parts for our model it is that old.

Thought i would ask if here if i might be eligible for a free replacement boiler.

I am on Working tax credits and also receive DLA i am also still at home with my folks I dont know if that makes a difference or nor.

    Any advice would be helpful.

If you earn less than £16k, then you may qualify..
Would probably be worth calling British Gas and asking them about the Affordable Warmth Scheme.
  • If you,re living at home,it will be for your parents to qualify and not you.imo
  • I had a survey/ assessment on 6-11-13 by LAZENBY NRG. He said I had to pay £99 for a chemical flush, I paid £50 towards this, and I got a receipt.
He said it would take 6-8 weeks. I haven’t heard anything yet. I think I will phone them today.

Has anyone else used this company for the boiler replacement scheme?

  • You know I honestly think that some companies are using the eco system to make money from us as well as the energy companies.I,m not saying this company is but I,d not pay a penny until the job was done regardless.

Incidentally,i had a missed phone call fron dyson saying a guy would be around today for an assessment, its not a suitable time so phoned back twice to let them know, the woman dealing with me was not available and would phone me back.Needless to say,she did,nt,the assessor phoned last night thankfully to confirm today and I had to put him off,so probably bottom of the pile for me now.

I have exactly the same suspicions. I was told I had to pay a contribution of £500 because the grant covered a small basic cheap model. The plumbing company wouldn't provide me with any of the grant paperwork despite asking. The boiler I've had fitted is a direct replacement, same make, same capacity. The installation is a simple, old one out new one in, no repositioning, nothing extra.

I've since been led to believe the grants are for a like for like replacement and a contribution would only be for additional work.
Would anyone have any information to confirm this or otherwise?

I've been sent the invoice for the £500 but have requested sight of all the paperwork relating to the grant funding, (before I pay). No reply as yet!
  • Hi everyone I've been reading the comments but don't know who to ring?

I've just bought my own home and am in need of a new boiler as the one in there is old, I rang the mark group as they are advertising free boiler scheme but it finished earlier this week :(

Who can I ring to have it done? I don't mind how long it takes as if I can have it for free it's a bonus

    Thanks for replies
:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T
  • Lulu,id get onto the energy company you applied through for confirmation that you have to pay 500 quid, the pot of money is there to be used, you should be getting a suitable condensing boiler that is required for your home

skint, just apply if you are eligible through any of the energy suppliers

@rafthorney - I have now gone through the Energy Advice Centre and they`ve put in another application for me with EDF. Looking back at earlier pages on here, it looks as if EDF use Dyson as well !!
Well, at least the circumstances are different this time in that my boiler is now broken. Said I would hear in 3 weeks - don`t know if I can stand being without hot water much longer though, let alone heating.
Just realised they`ll probably say there will be no energy saving (as I`m not using any energy ATM)

Just updating the above. Heard from EDF today. They said I do not qualify as my boiler (Potterton Profile which is abt 18 years old) is not G rated which means it is still considered efficient. I said I thought the criteria is that the boiler has to be over 8 years old and she said that they (EDF) don`t assess on the boiler`s age but only on the efficiency - so that is in contradiciton to the government`s criteria. Ah well my boiler is still efficient - even though it has been broken since Boxing day and is supposedly too old to get parts for. My son has been researching and thinks he has found the part which he thinks is a valve - fingers crossed !
