  • The main page of https://www.drivinglicence.uk.com/ clealy states in three easy to read paragraphs:

I fail to see how it can be any clearer?

I fail to see how my guidance detailing why their service is fraudent and how to reclaim fee's could be any clearer but you ain't getting that are you Harvey. You're one of those unhelpful individuals with a minor superiority complex... You'd never ever get scammed because you're far too intelligent for that. Maybe consider joining Mensa because you are not contributing anything helpful to this thread.

Firstly if you are conned by these people, under no circumstances should you contact their premium rate line for satisfaction, the only people left satisfied by this approach will be Caveat Viator Ltd and their business model recognises that disgruntled customers will want to call and complain. This adds insult to injury and throws good money after bad. Written contact only, it's formal and it costs nothing.
I was duped by these people for a driving license renewal (Hey, we all have our off days). Went on their site which is designed to look like the DVLA site and completed my application and paid the £60 fee which I thought was to the DVLA. Six days later got their envelope through the post and realised I had been duped. I immediately returned all documents to them with a letter (sent via registered post) giving them 7 days to provide a full refund or I would raise a small claim in the county court. I then received a lengthy email explaining that it was all my fault for not reading their terms and conditions blah blah blah. I immediately raised a claim with the county court which cost £25 and took ten minutes to do online. Guess what... As soon as they received the court notification they sent an email asking who the should make the cheque for refund payable to. Of course I haven't received this yet and I have also asked for additional court costs of £25 which if they refuse to pay I will reclaim with a second small claims application. It seems they have tried to exploit a loophole in the distance selling regulations that exempts them from the 7 day cooling off period normally standard for the provision of services. However I'll share my last email with Caveat Viator Ltd and you will see on what grounds I would be making my claim through county court...
    Good Afternoon,

As you know by now, the matter has been put through to County Court after you initially refused to refund my fee's. You had every opportunity to avoid additional fee's and and now must be fully aware of the value claimed. Make a cheque payable to Mr J P Malone to the value of £85 which includes my initial £60 fee and an additional £25 in court costs. If you refuse to refund that amount I will simply raise a second county court claim to cover the short fall and you will incur additional fee's. You were adequately warned about additional costs and given the opportunity to provide recompense. If I'm honest, I'd have preferred to deal with this issue through the courts. Your business model is fraudulent, the OFT make it very clear that 'administrative or preparatory work cannot be equated to the carrying out of a service.' This is stated in their 2006 guide for business in distance selling. Moreover your business model needs testing from a contract law perspective. There has to be discernible benefit or consideration to the customer to make a contract valid. The DVLA provide a checking and validation service as part of their application process so what you offer does nothing but delay license renewal. In fact it could be strongly argued that what you provide is actually a detriment because it simply delays the application process. In short I think you're a shameless bunch of crooks and I'd happily see you in court.

If you have been duped by this company for driving licence, vehicle registration or European Health Insurance Cards please please raise a county court claim. I suspect that they are well aware that their business model will not stand up to legal scrutiny. Their 'service' is downright ridiculous and fraudulent, they claim to offer a form checking service but simply print off a form that you filled in and ask you to check that the details you completed are correct before returning it to the DVLA. It would be amusing if they weren't ripping off so many people.

Hi Jo, i have just submitted a county court claim to this company, how long did the process take from submitting the claim to recieving the email from CVL regarding refund?
    thanks
  • Thought I'd add to the volume of discontent on the bunch of shisters who operate this "driving license uk" rip off web site. The following thread is an endless list of people who have been fraudulently mis led. Note the operational address of the company in Sunderland is listed below. They also appear to have a site called DVIA which is clearly a deliberate attempt to mis lead. A chap called "Liam" at least called back to attempt to defend their so called service but couldn't answer any of my accusations about their fraudulent activities. I have given them 7 days to refund in full before going legal.
    Parasitic scum.

Yes i was also duped by my thinking that this was an official site, by not checking I'm paying well over the top money.
I thought the fee was the cost of renewing a 10yr passport.
Basically this site duplicates the IPS online service. this site should be taken down.

I feel that have been mislead by this site too. It looks so official that I could not believe that it was not genuine. £32 for sending off a partially completed form. Difficult to understand such business is authorized in UK. If you Google for driving license, drivinglicence.uk.com appears first on the list. They say they g bucks charge a fee upfront, but I would think their charges are at arms length compared to similar service providers. What is free in DVLA costs 35 GBP.

Looks like they have paid big bucks to google to stay in the business. they say they charge for verification, verification of what - an online form which has all instructions shouldn't cost even 5 pound for a verification service?

Yes me too guys - initially went to post office - collected passport application pack - filled it all in - then looked in the leaflet in the pack and on the application form to find the fee but none listed. Both documents direct applicants to the direct gov,uk passports website for a list of fees. Typed it in and up came guess who - these people. Saw could apply for passport online and thought great. Why not? we do car tax online. So completed details and thought at end would tell me Id need to send old passport and 2 x photos but nothing. realized made stupid stupid error - felt sick, cried and livid. Tried tel no but Sunday. sent email - no reply. Sent letter - reply via email today stating sorry but application process started and even though they mention 7 day cooling off period - sorry but this means nothing. contacted IPS - they are aware of problem and trying to investigate to get these 3rd party websites shut down - advised to request refund from website. So sorry all you people have gone through what I just have - how can other human beings be so cruel?? I really feel strongly about this - whoever contacted police could you let me know how you got on. Wondering if my solicitor can help? Anyone got any ideas - ?

Do not try to call the hotline, it is a waste of money. really shocked that nothing has been done about this website, especially as it has already been fined 25,000 pounds for deliberately misleading people.

These people also operate a site called DrivingLicence.uk.com which offers to apply for Provisional driving licence for £50, a sum identical to the DVLA licence fee. What is not clear is that the £50 you pay to them is only a checking fee and you still have to pay the £50 fee to DVLA. £100 for a provisional licence!!! The impression many will have is that the actual licence fee is covered by the charge. No-one would knowingly pay £50 to have someone check a 2 page form. Surely this site should be closed down.

When I got hold of a genuine number for the offical "Her Majesty's Passport Service" they told me I needed to pay £72.50 for a new passport and that the £29 I'd paid was not a service run by them. It's also a checking service the Post Office do for around £8. Not happy - the site looked like an official government site. These people are rip-off merchants - AVOID!

Like many others, I wouldn't have thought anyone else could legally obtain this information the way they do but they have found all the loopholes. You also conveniently when you hit the pay now option after entering your details don't get any confirmation of the amount you pay, luckily this alerted me immediately that something was not right. The best thing to do is use this link! Which is nestled away ... you can request a refund on here! Needless to say the email contained some choice content. I have received a refund but sounds like many others haven't been so successful. I think it's a joke that they are legally allowed to get away with this and endorsed by google as well beware!

Yet another dummy!! Mine was for a replacement driviing licence. I had no idea that this was not the DVAL site. £60 for a fake form sent out post ( a copy of the DVLA form with teh DVLA logo ( top left)and Dept of transport log bottom right. I contacted DVLA ; they accept forms from this outfit! They say they can do nothing about the cowboys but have a preapared statement which is read to complianants.
Trading standards referred me to CAB who were less than interested... my fault I should have read small print. They could not comment on teh cowboys copying and editting teh official DVLA form. Surely that must be illegal..and DVLA cannot miss the copy !. Have written to my MP

I took my renewal form to the post office on the day my photocard was due to run out.

They took a digital picture i paid just shy of £25

And got my new photocard and licence back in 4 days

I did an address change at the same time as moved house in November
  • Hi Jo, i have just submitted a county court claim to this company, how long did the process take from submitting the claim to recieving the email from CVL regarding refund?
    thanks

Not long at all, it's a fast track process so roughly 3 weeks.

    Regards

    Joe
  • Hi, I to have fallen for this Driving Licence application site. Has anyone contacted their Credit Card company to ask them to get a refund ? Their site stated that they would refund if I contacted them before an application was made but there would be an £8.00 admin charge, obviously I have had no refund, just wondered if the CC company could help.

    Hi,

Another 'mug' here. Well, after a long day at the end of a long week I did a quick search, clicked a link and read this:

"EASY WAY TO APPLY FOR YOUR DRIVING LICENCE ONLINE
Apply for, renew or change your driving licence online,
    safely and securely"

Did all the bits and bobs thinking it was a Government site (yes, I know it's not now!). Realised I'd been conned as there was no changing of my licence online as proclaimed at the header of the form to being the application.

Emails have been sent and I will pursue them for the full costs. For those of you in this thread thinking I 'deserve it' you are nothing but trolls and should be treated as such.

If those running this site are reading this then you can refund my money now and save yourselves another court letter.

The thing is, a quick search for Driving License Renew and they're at the top of the listings in the paid ads section. Easy to get caught I imagine.
