Ok I hate being an amateur psychologist but you clearly have some kid of anxiety issues. What kind I don't know; it doesn't sound like PND given what you have said, but chest-tightening panic and obsessive vigilance is not normal or necessary. Perhaps you have a logical misinderstanding of the dangers involved here, but if not the most concerning thing here is your emotional responses to the situation.

You have not said once what actually worries you about the mice. They will not attack your children, they will do anything they can to hide. They are not even THAT bad at spreading diseases, as long as your kitchen cupboards are secure so they don't get to your food. If they do get in, they are normally very easy to notice because they leave droppings. If no droppings, they probably never get in. The poison is not going to be an issue. Dead mice are not appetising food for babies any more than adults; they score pretty highly on the disgust instinct scale.

To put it simply nothing much is to happen.

Anyway, I hope you get it sorted (either by enforcing a solution or giving notice) for the benefit of your state of mind as much as anything else.

I don't know the Scottish procedure but in England you can call your council's environmental health people in who can force you LL to take measures as long as it's not you causing the problem

Mice are not rats, and I wouldn't worry so much. They aren't going to harm your baby or attack you. They are tiny and will do everything they can to hide from you but will look for food. Therefore they may eat into your cereal packets and eat food left out overnight. I'm not saying don't deal with them but don't make yourself so panicked. Unfortunately you may need to deal with it as it is not something landlords HAVE to pay out for.

I can't sleep :( I can hear them scuttling about in the loft!! I have shut off all the electricity for a bit to see if I can hear them in my flat...how long should I give it before I can be a bit more certain that they are not down here...5 minutes? 10 minutes?

Dunroamin...I know that you are just teasing but please stop :'( Will they multiple? How long can they go without food? All my cupboards are high up so they won't get any food here...unless they can climb up?

Put down some traps, wipe down surfaces before you cook (like I do with my cats because they get up on the worktops when I'm sleeping), and if you're really worried about your baby not that there is cause to as mice are quite harmless, you can always get a mosquito net to put over them whilst you sleep. They do baby mosquito nets for moses baskets and prams for about £9.99.

I think maybe the lack of sleep might be adding to your anxiety, go see your GP and explain the situation they may well be able to help. But seriously, put a few mouse traps out it'll give you some peace of mind when you find they haven't ventured from in the attic.

Mice can climb walls with very little to hold on too... usually a tactic they use to escape from crazy cats and hysterical women with brooms.. (you've seen Tom and Jerry, right?)

They are tiny, and so cute! Unlike their bigger counterparts that make me squeal like a girl.

I have squeakers in the loft, we have had a few in the house but the cats soon remove them.. they are absolutely harmless.. but dead ones in your shoe stink to high heaven.. not recommended.

I read somewhere you are never more than 10ft from a r.a.t.... and of the 2 I know what I'd prefer!!!!!!!!! I prefer mice to flies which spread more diseases.

They like chocolate and peanut butter.. if you decide to get traps..

    That's mean! ;-)

OP; I've had mice in the past; they used to run through the RSJ cavity constantly and one night I could hear them nibbling in the loft and they had nibbled round the light and the bloody thing fell through the ceiling; so they can do damage. Call your pest control people in the morning and explain you're terrified. A girl at work has had a mice problem recently and she too was terrified; she got the old fashion snap neck mouse traps but couldn't dispose of the dead mice once caught.. so you're not alone with your fear.

Can mice climb onto the sofa? or onto the beds?

Why have you started another thread?

You've had lots of responses on the other one already.

You seem to be winding yourself into a frenzy - calm down and go to see your GP tomorrow... As I said on the other thread, your reaction does not appear normal unless you have a phobia or anxiety issues. Whatever the reason, you need to keep your feelings away from your children and seek help.
