In which case you need to give your landlord one rental-period's notice IN WRITING and pay the rent in full to the end of your tenancy. So, get your writing-stuff out and then you can pack.

Ok. I will give the landlord one months notice and leave at the end of the month. It doesn't matter then that I am technically one month into a 'new 6months' then?

WHOA! Scottishland. I believe that tenancies in Scotland renew themselves in blocks of the same duration as the original tenancy, so you might have to pay the rent for another six months.

Best to check on the Shelter Scotland website for guidance before you start packing.

    I think that may matter.
  • If you're going to make crazy life decisions because of anxiety make sure you talk to a doctor first, it could be something serious or it could just be stress, serious problems don't go away on their own and minor problems aren't worth uprooting for.

Personally I love mice, they're super cute and fun to watch, they're not at all harmful to humans and as BitterAndTwisted said, a mouse is as likely to attack you as you are to attack King Kong!

Squeak squeak. See, even in text form it's super cute! Which reminds me I forgot to leave some food out for the field mouse that visits my garden, thank you for the reminder!

As a rule of thumb if you're in a month-to-month tenancy you'll need to provide one full rental period of notice, for example if your rent is paid on the 1st of every month and you provided your landlord notice today, you would be liable for the rent until August 31st. Although there are so many variables providing the information B&T requested will allow you to get exact answers.

The landlord is responsible for pest control - if poison has been put down then they are aware of this.
Hun, mice are a pest - but if you have mice then you don't have rats which are a lot worse!
be vigilant with food - never leave food out!
mice are mostly harmless! they wont attack your baby and avoid human contact.
    please don't over-react - they are a pest - but don't really harm humans!

I can empathise with how you feel about the thought of mice being in your home. About 2 years ago they got into my home via the garage and hearing them running around across ceilings and in the walls freaked me out a bit. I contacted a pest control company who put poison down in the loft, airing cupboard and round the garage and the problem sorted itself out within a week or so.

Have you spoken to your landlord/landlady and explained how you are feeling? Maybe they could put your mind at rest over how this situation is being managed and controlled. They may ask the pest control people to come back as it seems to be on-going. How long is left on your tenancy agreement? This is a binding contract so you would be liable for the rent even if you decided to move out. Best to try and resolve the main problem before taking that step.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I actually don't think that your issues are only caused by the mice, you are having a bit of a reaction to something that may or may not be mice.

I would think it pretty impossible that mice are going to suddenly fall from the attic and go near your newborn

Seriously, with any lease you take your chances, whats going to happen if you give up this flat and you move to somewhere else and absolutely hate it.

You need to take advice before leaving, proper legal advice so you don't end up paying another 5 months rent as you said on another thread that you are 1 month into a 6 month lease

This may be stating the obvious, but have you considered that you might be suffering from post natal depression, because crying all the time over a few mice that you haven't seen is a bit of an extreme reaction.

    I wasn't aware, thanks!

but yeah, if you're stuck in the property for another 5 months OP, you will probably want to take the advice re getting the gas checks done by LL at the very least. Mice can wait!

    STOP PEOPLE!

    This is a Scottish tenancy.

Most of the advice above about ending it is wrong (including mine).
