Indeed. In fact anything 'political' cannot be registered as a charity, or at least could not:I'm not sure if that's still true today although I hope it is.lincroft1710 wrote: »UK political parties are not charities.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Hi all,
I have a limited company and I would like to equally make fundraising mainly for charity purpose.
Is it possible to do this through my limited company or do I need to paralelly set up a charity business? Or is it better to convert it to a Social Enterprise?
In fact I would like to do something like at knowhownonprofit(dot)org/people/employment-law-and-hr/copy_of_legal-requirements/216864545

Hi J,
Thanks for taking the time.
We are pioneering - again! Seems to be our thing! But we see no other SE doing what we want in terms of a coprorate structure so we will define it as we go along.
I understand that you to the solidarity between people with strong prejudice but NO i d o not learn by heart every part of a text I copy paste from other site.0 -

The point is that someone was saying that I was running the non-profit organization just due to my financial situation : in all cases that remain donation for a cause and if I am not wrong starting a donation campaign using a paypal account does not make someone a scammer or an opportunist.0 -

IN Brassedoff's post, I believe SE stood for Social Enterprise. As it can sometimes mean self employed / self employment, I can understand the confusion, but since he is trying to be helpful and he seems to know what he is talking about, what he says is worth taking into account.
What has been suggested to you, several times and in multiple threads I believe, is that trying to do this apparently on your own makes this unlikely to be viable. It is a barrier to getting a charity registered, it is a barrier to running events successfully.
You said at an earlier stage that you'd been asked to do this. If those asking you to do this want it done, then IMO they need to get stuck in alongside you.
In a previous thread we have concluded that I will stick only to the non-profit organization status instead of 'non-profit and social enterprise' so I do not understand why he come back with this. If I want to deduct my operating cost I just have to keep the present receipts and deducts my investment from the organization futures revenues.
Once again, the organization have two main activities and the second one only will be (maybe) the donation [I am even now thinking to remove it in order to have 100% freedom and to be peace of mind (I have been always too proud in my life for begging/kissing asses and it is not now I will start)].
In the communities involved, there are a lot problems of ego and if I start now hiring people without taking the time to well train them or show them the first benefits of the organization (in order to force them to do better) everything will remain in the same state for years. I have done this 10 years ago....I have seen the result : NAN.
Personally, I am not disappointed with my search. Now, I have to focus on the first activity (in order to not look like a scammer and be free to use my paypal account).0 -
The SE is ?
Please stop this useless abbreviation and your though as it is.

SE =Social Enterprise.
You appear to have a lot of preconceived ideas, so why bother asking for advice? You see, normally I charge for it.
Good luck with the company/not for profit/social enterprise/that's going to get donations/that will go into your own personal bank account.......hold on :T0 -

Correct. The charities commission have a bar on this since their inception.
The OP is confused/hasn't got a clue. A social enterprise company is NOT a charity. She is talking about a CIC (Community Interest Company).
That still needs more than one director and a board of trustees.0 -

With regard to the events here, I am on the board of a large music event, once a year, for a week, no bigger than a gig in the park, but televised.
Take out the camera crew and press here, there are still more than 120 people working there (including 40-50 on stage), and with the cameras and press there.
Take this to your small Friday night pub event, it's still at least 2 staff, plus band; a minimum of 6 people, all of whom need paying at the end of the night.
I know I'm focusing on music events here, but at the same time, 60% to band + £300 out in staffing costs/vehicle costs/electrics costs, before you've even seen any profit, is £750 you need to be turning over, before even considering your venue hire etc. It's incredibly difficult to do, and whilst I've made a fair bit of money from the industry, it's not something I'd go into lightly.
You really need to brush up on how business actually works, as whilst I've been able to get grant funding to bring Romanian/Bulgarian nationals into our music studios this year (£35000 of £90000 costs), trying to get any form of grants/goodwill from anyone, is getting more and more difficult, especially with business the way it is at the moment.
