If you want people to donate money you need to be specific about the actual recipients of this money before it is donated.

From a lay mans point of view this all sounds a bit dodgy.

You may have the best of intentions but I can tell you that there is no way I would donate money to anything other than a registered charity and even then I would vet their ethics.

I think you are going to have an uphill struggle to make this work however I wish you luck.

In order to avoid people to be suspicious, I think it will be better that I put my company dormant and register a charity so.

Setting up a charity isn't to be undertaken lightly: also once you've set up a charity you must work within the constraints of its governing document, ie you can't change what area of work you want to support.

I can't quite understand why you can't run your business and make regular donations from profit to the charity of your choice.

Because I have been named an 'ambassador' of a community(refugees from a south America country) and I have to make a fundraising for their cause.

What is "their cause"? Is it technically charitable?

Best thing to do IMHO is to open a charity separate from your LTD company and just donate to the charity. You will struggle to become registered as a charity without trustees. So you will need to think of that too.

Never mix LTD business and Charity money together. If you inadvertently spent money that was the charities you could be charged with fraud and theft. Even if you repay it.

The plan has a bit changed : It will be a non-profit organization and the short term activities will be event management and fundraising. Once the organization will reach the £5000 I will hire two volunteer and register to the charity commission.

Jessica9 are you looking to run the SE to basically cover your normal costs of operating? I ask as it looks that way to me. I struggle to understand the business concept

I am definitively the sole director & shareholder.
My fundraising will be mainly an online fundraising :
For the transparency, I will display all money/donations that has been given on a website and give the option to additionally display the donators name.

Another issue is that I am not sure that donators can deduct their donations from their tax return since my company is a limited company.

so people make donations to you then you donate to a big charity?

you could just put a link on your website to the charity you want to support

    The SE is ?

Please stop this useless abbreviation and your though as it is.

But by advance (even without fully understanding your meaning) what i am saying is that due the bad mentality of some people (prejudices,etc...) I could not expect more than £1000 in the first month. If I add my own running cost + email campaign + hoster + campany law + etc....I could certainly not cover my cost with this supposed 'donation'.

The problem is about the TIMING : it is now that I have to start the donation campaign and this people full of prejudices at (Santander business bank especially) are just sabotaging my project.

According to your saying, I should just cancel the donation project since it seems that I must be rich before...

I have a question, how political party survive? It is based on donation of their members isn't?

Ps : I believe during the first months of a company the director can use his own account if the company does not have one yet.
