I got my letter yesterday. I'm on Entertainment Extra and yet Sky have informed me that my bill is going up £1.50 - not 50p.

They've sent me a lovely leaflet explaining all the "extra" stuff I'll be getting for my £1.50 though. How nice.

Time to give them a call me thinks...

No need to call them - you can cancel via email now in your 'MySKY' account. Beats hanging on the phone for ages! Will see what happens...

My bill is going up £2.50 but I don't have my letter to hand.

    I currently have

    TV and boxes - £64-75
    • Entertainment Extra with Sports and Movies
    • Sky+HD

    Broadband - £10.00
    • Sky Broadband Unlimited

    Phone - FREE
    • Sky Talk Freetime
    Total = £74-75.

Why £2.50? Is it because I don't take the line rental? Thanks in advance.

    The Sports is +£1.00
    The Entertainment Extra is +£0.50

...and any customer with any price freeze discount remaining (from Sept 2011) is losing up to £1.00 of that too.

Thanks, but i don't have any discounts on the go. That's why I can't figure out the £2.50?

I'm 9 months through my 12 month contract, this is now the 2nd price rise during my contract term, think the last one was £1.50 now another £1.50 on top.

Their broadband is terrible, the modem they supplied doesn't broadcast signal through my whole 2 bedroom flat. I want out, Virgin Media it is, out of the frying pan and into the fire...

Am I within my rights to phone up and cancel my contact as they've moved the goalposts again?
  • Quite simple. If your not happy with the price rise then cancel. That's what I did this morning. Was already paying £47 which wasn't enough for sky. It's obvious that they don't realise there's a recession on. This £2.50 rise was the final straw for me. 15 years I've been a customer and never once rewarded for my loyalty. Bye bye sky !

So I got the letter the other day telling me my monthly bill is going up £3.50. It was only around 8 months ago it went up £1.50.

My lovely letter explains "why we are doing this" and describes how they are going to make more programmes and employ more call centre staff. Well - point1: you should make programmes anyway WITHOUT charging me more when i already pay £75 a month. point2: I already pay when/IF I call the call centre anyway!!

At almost £80 a month for extra room, HD and all packages im voting with my feet. Sky have always been clever at bundling the channels in such a way that you cant simply drop one without losing one you want to watch so I am going freesat and banking the what is now £960 a year. (on top of the TV license).

Sky is outpricing itself out of the market in my opinion and often we see "the mighty fall" in these situations. There are plenty of other options available now - if you dont mind missing a lot of live football matches and some F1 of course.

Thanks bradfordBoy - thats how i should have ended my Post as thats how I feel. Customer from day one and its constant price increases to the point it aint worth it for TV.

If you post and are leaving sky please finish it with "Bye Bye Sky" and the amount you pay so we can gauge how much money they have lost in total. By the end of August im writing to Stephen van Rooyen, Skys MD of Sales & Marketing with the figure.

    thanks all. People power!! :0)

  • I don't normally post but as you ask I put in my notice last week and will stop being a sky customer on 25/08/13 due to the increasing costs.

    Bye Bye Sky
