we flew forthe first time in a while:o in jan and we wernt prepared at all. ds only drinks certain drinks that have to be kept cold:eek: and we had them all in hand luggage:eek:  along with a drink each for us. they threw ours but let us keep ds's which was most kind. 100mls isnt much to keep a toddler going for long

we will be much more prepared this month when we fly:D0 -
I came a cropper of this too recently. In good old MSE style, I saved money by only taking on hand luggage, completely forgetting about the 100ml rule. Thankfully they missed the suncream, but OH was not too pleased when they threw away his expensive aftershave!
I'm with the cynics I'm afraid. Seems like a great money making scam to me!
a friend of mine had to throe her lacoste away. she cried for the whole flight! bless her.0 -
does anyone know the rules concerning baby milk? I'm going in 3 weeks to the Canaries, with our 3 DS - age 9, 6 and 6 months, obviously the older 2 will understand, but milk will be a necessity for the baby, where can I find out about the guidelines, oh, we're flying from Birmingham0

You may be asked for proof that they are needed and/or required to taste the contents of each jar or bottle.0 -

Liquids/drinks for children can be taken through security and do not have to comply with the 100ml rule and are in additional to what you have to put into the clear bag. Be prepared to open up any drinks and taste them in front of security staff... this also includes jars of baby food.
Nearly forgot... you can take milk powder in your hand luggage, this won't need to be tasted, then just add water once you're through security checks.0 -
I think you must have missed some detail and mean special fluids for babies etc. I can't believe that if i say that my 2 litre bottle of coke is for my 12 year old child that they'll let it through!Liquids/drinks for children can be taken through security and do not have to comply with the 100ml rule and are in additional to what you have to put into the clear bag. The answer to your liquid limit is here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=468956Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

Please can someone help me clarify if I have understood the rules right as I haven'flown for over a year. For hand baggage you can take a bag that's 55cms x 40cms x 20cms big but this must not contain any liquids, if you want to take liquids you need to put them in a clear plastic bag and the liquids must be small sizes? We are flying to Italy in summer for a few days for a short break and had hoped to take only hand baggage, but may need to check a bag in for the hold.
Thanks.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams

That's correct, but if you only take small bottles of toothpaste, suncream and body lotion, for example, and use the hotel's shampoo and shower gel, you won't need to check-in anything

I flew to Stansted the other day and purposefully a few weeks ago saved the last couple of squirts from an almost now empty can of deodrant specifically for this trip.
That of course was me being clever until Mr security bod said "ere despite the fact theres only a couple of squirts in it, the canis 250ml so it is too big for the plane"................... so the security guard went off with my rightguard having also looked at the 3/4 empty tube of toothpaste and old film canister 1/4 full of shampoo.
I only had hand baggage as I was away for just one night but bear in mind the 100ml rule means items totalling 100ml, so you cant take 100ml toothpaste and 100 ml hairspray.
Definitely best to put everything in your own hold baggage to minimise hassle.0 -

Hi You really should check the website of your airline near the date of the flight so you have up to date and accurate info- much as I love MSE ers advice, things change!
Handbaggage size varies (and the way it is defined varies, with Continental it was a total measurement of length+width+depth). Remember that your handbag has to go INSIDE this too . Liquids up to 1L in 100ml bottles in a small zip top bag are allowed. If you are travelling for long I guess you want to take bigger ones and they will have to be checked in.
Interestingly with continwntal we had baggage allowance of 20kg going out and 23kg returning:rotfl: Great for the shopping, but rubbish if you are a Yank and can take less home than you too out of the country
