Do they give you the little plastic bags at the airport?

Well they didn't seem available in Stansted but Dublin Airport were handing them out for free as you queued up.

i thought that was standard now?

Well yes and no. We didn't know about the shoe x-ray after the main luggage x-ray so we walked straight through. It was only when I saw people putting on shoes that made me look and think that we should put our shoes through too. Otherwise we would have got away with it.

At Dublin I was the only member of our party asked to take my shoes off.

Interesting that at both Stansted and Dublin you have to take your shoes off for x-ray.

We didnt while flying from Stansted on Weds and Dublkin on Thursday

OH managed to get botle of ribena through in hand luggage ( he forgot about it) coming through Dublin security- which was the fastest security I have ever encountered

Stansted were telling us to buy plastic bags in Boots- I threw mt deodrant awat rather than leave big queu for a plastic bag

the main thing that bothers me is suntan lotion Ive got some here, but I wont be able to take it in my hand luggage only. :w

I dont think theres any actual shops at bournemouth airport is there- anyone know?
Why not put it in your pocket instead of the hand luggage? You and your pocket contents don't go through the x-ray machine.

I did fart on the plane though.
I wouldn’t do that on a plane to the US. Their Department of Homeland Security sees bad smells as a potential threat to national security. It could even include little bad smells like yours. :)

Think I'll just put everything in my suitcase and survive the 2 hour flight with out a lip balm.

no...you can't go on a plane without lipbalm. put it into a plastic bag at home....plastic bags make things SAFE :rotfl:

:rotfl: try explaining this to a 4 year old. In the huge queue last time at the airport he was asking why he couldn't have a drink, and why they were taking liquids off everyone.....til mummy explained that the pilot did not want anyone to spill their drinks and make a mess on the plane!

I'm always flying into and from Manchester, and there we don't have to take our shoes off.
There are always huge queues for the x-rays, but they actually move quite quickly.
They also give the plastic bags for free, but I got one from Zurich and keep using it again and again (although now it is looking a bit dodgy, maybe I'll get a new free one soon).

I came a cropper of this too recently. In good old MSE style, I saved money by only taking on hand luggage, completely forgetting about the 100ml rule. Thankfully they missed the suncream, but OH was not too pleased when they threw away his expensive aftershave!

I'm with the cynics I'm afraid. Seems like a great money making scam to me!
